Keyes more black than Obama? Blacks don't think so. (New Poll)
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 01:50 PM by Doomsayer13
(summary)

A recent Chicago Tribune/WGN-TV poll shows Alan Keyes has a 65% unfavorability rating among African Americans, and boasts only a 3% favorable rating, with 33% no opinion. When asked who they would likely vote for, Barack Obama had an astounding 96%(!!!!) to 3% edge on Keyes. Black voters viewed former candidate Jack Ryan, a white investment backer turned innercity school teacher, with a higher favorability than Alan Keyes.

The poll also shows Obama with a lead among nearly every demographic and ideology, including conservatives, in which he holds a 49%-40% lead. Obama's hold among Democrats is solid, as well as his lead among moderates (76%-10%), and independents. The only demograhpic in which Keyes holds a strong leads are very conservative voters in which Keyes leads 55%-36%. These voters made up only 13% of the survey, however. Keyes holds a narrow lead among voters who support more restrictions on abortion by a mere 45%-42%, which is surprising considering that Keyes has mad abortion the centerpiece of his campaign.

In an ironic twist, the deposed Jack Ryan is considered, by most Illinois voters, to be the better candidate. Many Illinoisinans and Republicans don't think that he should've dropped out. 55% of Illinois voters say that Keyes's lack of residence in the state make him less capable to serve.

12. Oh come on, he will have to stay at least a day or two.
Don't you know that 9/11 changed everything ? And I think God called him to Illinois because of 9/11 . . . . or something.

2. WOW! Now we're going to fight about who is the blackest???
Give me a break! I don't live in Ill. and I happen to be a white female living in Ga., but I was impressed by Obama's speech at the convention. NOT because he was black, but because he was very articulate, and impressed me as a candidate. I'm glad he's a Democrat!

10. I did read the post, but FIRST I read the headline.
It was the headline I responded to. I didn't mean to insult you, and if I did, I apologize. I hate it when everybody seems to focus on someone because of race.

When the Pubs were supposedly talking to Powell about running for Presiden back in 1999, I thought that would be a good idea. I liked Powell back then (have since changed my mind). I mentioned this to my BIL, and his comment was, "America isn't ready for a black man for President." I was shocked! My BIL is a Pub, and I couldn't believe he said that. I told him I didn't look at Powell as a black man, but as an honest man who seemed to know what he was talking about. I really never even thought about his race.

I'm too old to hope I'll ever see it in my lifetime, but I hope the time comes when people can judge others on their actions, what they say, and what they've done in their life.

11. I completely agree
And I think the polls show that Obama has a massive crossover appeal, that he's not confined to any demogrpahic or group of people. He even has an edge among conservatives. I just thought it ironic (and disgusting) that the Reupblicans would trot out Alan Keyes simply becuase of his race, and now it's backfiring on them in a bad way.

7. i believe ryan would have lost but
he would have done better than keyes. ryan is a moderate republican and the neo-grover guys wanted no part of ryan to begin with..well they got what they wished and now they are faced with the problem that the selection of keyes will destroy what power they had..what will rise out of the destrution of the republican party in illinois should be interesting..i`m sure dickerson, lincoln, percy, and all the other great republicans in illinois are ashamed..no wonder anderson moved to florida

8. say goodbye to the right in IL
when keyes is decimated, Republicans will blame the far religious right for hijacking the election. During every primary from now on, Alan Keyes's disasterous candidacy will be on the minds of all Republican voters.
