Obama DOESNT call Hugo Chavez Enemy Of U.S. NOR does he Urge Sanctions Against Venezuela! !!
But amazingly because some two bit reporter wanted to invent a "flip flop" story instead of actually do real journalistic work...it's being reported as such. And interestingly enough... people on DU are "concerned" with this non existent move to the center... Some are just "outraged" by this non move by the Obama campaign.

Let's keep right wing smears out of DU... closet PUMAs please try to at least provide proof benind your fauxrage.

1. Yeah, I wondered about that post. It didn't pass the smell test.
Amazing that some here at DU would buy it hook, line and sinker.

There are many agendas here, my dear Skinner.

going to the right a RIGHT-WING smear?

They are too busy painting him as a Panther-ish bomb-thrower.

5. The republicans are waging two fronts in smearing....
the Panther-ish bomb thrower is to keep republicans voting and the "he's a big flip flopping elitist" smear is to confuse the ignorant, uninformed, pay-attention-for-one-week-every-for-years, independent voters.

They are saying that Obama is a covert commie-muslim who is "pretending" to move to the center...thus making him an flip flopping terrorist black separatist.

15. Chavez's feud is with Bush not America
It is Chavez who sold oil at wholesale cost to one of the Kennedy's charities to help the poor in New England with their heating oil needs.

Obama favors neo-liberal economics. That's why he favors free trade. Chavez opposed the bankrupt free trade policies that have hurt Central and Latin American companies along with the USA. It's Obama who chooses to ignore the corrupt policies of free trade.

29. Obama's economic advisors are neo-liberals
and favor free trade and corporate needs over labor. Robert Rubin was the mentor to most of Obama's economic advisors and Rubin still is a major advocate for free trade.

The progressive movement is going to have to keep the pressure on President Obama to gut free trade and create a fair trade system.

32. That is very true. And thank you for saying it without unecessary hysterics
domestic and international economic issues are an are where we will always have to keep pressuring any democratic candidate because they will always have advisers whispering in their ear for the desires of the privileged elite. The real test of leadership will not be whether or not Obama has any such advisers around him, but whether or not he has the strength of character to listen equally to the voice of working people, and the ability to tell them where the line is drawn, rather than have them control him - that will be the real question.

47. Alvaro Uribe has Death Squads & Mass Graves. Chavez doesn't. Where's the balance?
Why isn't it obvious that demonizing Chavez is a lie? Haven't you seen the video footage of the coup against Chavez in "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised"? Chavez's opponents are flat-out murderers and fascists. Chavez reads the culprits their Miranda Rights when they're caught -- not the act of a tyrant.

Get some facts.

19. Here's The Facts On What Obama Said And You're Calling Them Lies?
Here's what Obama told Walter Pacheco of the Orlando Sentinel on May 22nd:

"One of the obvious high priorities in my talks with President Hugo Chavez would be the fermentation of anti-American sentiment in Latin America, his support of (Marxist narco-terrorists) FARC in Colombia, and other issues he would want to talk about,"

And in a speech delivered before the right-wing Cuban-American National Foundation on May 23rd Obama said:

""We will shine a light on any support for the FARC that comes from neighboring governments. This behavior must be exposed to international condemnation, regional isolation, and -- if need be -- strong sanctions. It must not stand."

Obama continued, "We have to hold Venezuela accountable if, in fact, it is trying to ferment terrorist activities in other borders. If Venezuela has violated those rules, we should mobilize all the countries to sanction Venezuela and let them know that that's not acceptable behavior."

Obama knows for a fact that Venezuela and Chavez are not fermenting "terrorist activities" so why did he even suggest this might be happening to a meeting of the right-wing Cuban-American National Foundation?

And Obama surely knows that Hugo Chavez called upon FARC to release all of their hostages and to end their armed activities in Columbia, so his claim that Chavez's "supports FARC in Columbia" is simply not the truth.

Does the lead poster think the above is some sort of right-wing smear?

I hope not.

I just don't like Obama repeating the right-wing smears directed against Hugo Chavez and Venezuela!

And you condone that sort of thing?

Chavez is a complex man with some complex policies. He's done a lot of good and some bad, as most politicians have. Naturally, he should be watched like a hawk for abuse of power (as should every single politician) but talking to the man or his representatives is simply sensible.
