Obama up by 8 in Michigan
Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 12:46 PM by liskddksil
Barack Obama has more than doubled his lead over John McCain to eight percentage points in the economic battleground state of Michigan, with much of his new support coming from voters who have moved away from the Republican hopeful.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds 47% of Michigan voters favoring Obama while 39% back McCain. A month ago Obama had 45% support and McCain tallied 42%. When leaners are factored in, Obama leads by the same margin of eight points, 50% to 42%.

He is also up 44 /42 and 47 / 46 with leaners in Rasmussen's daily national tracking poll, where they had been tied the last few days.

1. Excellent. McCain spent a lot of money in Michigan, IIRC.
Now let's see some similar results in Ohio and PA.

2. Great news
Obama is locking up the blue states. If he can do the same in Pennsylvania, he can focus on flipping states like Ohio, Virginia, Florida, and Colorado.

3. I would have to give up on my state were it to go to for
McCain,I doubt any other state has devolved more than Michigan in the last 8 years.McCain has spent a lot of money here with his television ads running constantly,I hope he's forced to spend much more with the same results.

5. Knew you had it in you, Michiganders.
The economy's far too anemic for the people of that state to trust any word out of McCain's lying mouth.

8. Ignore the polls
These polls are so insignificant. Let's not give them credibility of any sort.

10. They are significant to see trends.
Doing well anywhere does not mean we should not work our asses off EVERYwhere.

9. With a REAL unemployment rate well over 10%--Obama should do well
Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 11:08 AM by tokenlib
Considering the official rate of 8.5 does not include those whose benefits have run out...there is a lot of bitterness and anger here. The unemployment benefit extension is being welcomed with much relief by many of us... More layoffs in the public and private sectors--life is grand!

That is not to say we won't have to work for it in MI however...it will be a fight...

11. I figured McCain was through here when...
... he was campaigning here during the primary and he said (paraphrasing): "Your jobs are gone and they're not coming back". Nothing about anything that we can do -- or try -- to bring jobs back. Just "they're not coming back".

Thanks for the optimism, McCain... I think I'll pass.

12. This will all change when Romney is selected as VP.
Obama will have to work like hell in Michigan. They know it too. The Obama campaign is sending a ton of staff into Michigan.

14. I'm not so sure he'll help McCain much.
I think it's a myth that Romney will be very helpful in Michigan. In the Republican primary, Romney got 39% to McCain 30%, which is far from a landslide. In fact, if you look at the primary on a whole, 61% of the people voted for someone other than Romney. Romney hasn't served in public office in Michigan....I don't think he's even lived here recently. I don't think most people are dumb enough to vote for someone just because they were born in their state. I agree, Obama will have to work for Michigan but I think the state will go for Obama by a larger margin than it did for Gore or Kerry (with or without Romney on the ticket).
