Say Goodbye to the clean campaign McSame promised - enter Steve Schmidt
Edited on Mon Jul-07-08 01:01 AM by themartyred
"Mr. McCain put a veteran of President Bush’s 2004 campaign in charge of day-to-day operations, and stepped away from a plan to have the campaign run by 11 regional managers, Mr. McCain’s aides said Wednesday.

The elevation of Steve Schmidt — who worked closely with Karl Rove — at Mr. McCain’s headquarters represented a sharp diminishment of the responsibilities of Rick Davis, who has been Mr. McCain’s campaign manager since the last shake-up nearly a year ago.

The shift was approved by Mr. McCain after several of his aides, including Mr. Schmidt, went to him about 10 days ago and warned him that he was in danger of losing the presidential election unless he revamped his campaign operation, two officials close to the campaign said." nytimes.com

-and-

So what should we expect from Schmidt? A bald, barrel-chested "partisan pugilist" who labored under Karl Rove on Bush's 2004 bid--he also ran Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's reelection campaign--McCain's new guru "speaks in pre-fabricated, consumable, sharp morsels," according to Marc Ambinder. "McCain has learned from Schmidt that it's OK not to be a referee, that it's OK not to play the judge, that it's OK to draw contrasts with your opponents." In other words, he's learned to be an effective (if more traditional) Republican presidential candidate. Schmidt, 37, lacks his predecessors' deep emotional ties to the boss, so he's more likely to assess (and correct) the candidate's weaknesses with the objective eye of an outsider. That in mind, expect tighter message discipline from McCain--two other Rove vets, Nicole Wallace and Greg Jenkins, have joined McCain's communications team--and crisper, more consistent attacks on Obama, whom the campaign plans to paint as an unprincipled opportunist (in contrast to McCain, who "puts his country first"). Think more "professional." After all, it was Bush's Brain who gave Schmidt his nickname: "Bullet." http://www.blog.newsweek.com/blogs/stumper/

SO, they thought they'd be sneaky and do it over the holiday weekend, it nearly got by me as I watched fireworks and ate far more than I should have, but I checked recent news to catch up, and lo and behold - McSame has brought in B*sh's '04 team (Rover surely will be involved now), and after McSame was told by, whoa, lookie who - Steve Schmidt - that he was going to lose the election unless McSame let them run it for him, Johnny boy has hired these dirty politicos to steer his campaign...

We hear it all the time, but really, we have to hammer them constantly on the facts - those things seem to escape B*sh-apologists. I have been in near arguments with my friends and family who have been spewing total lies about Obama lately, and ignoring the embarrassing history of McSame's actions and his horrible close-minded view on social issues and clear lust for warmongering!

I hope Obama hammers him on this in the debates, and the previous schmucks he had in his campaign...

3. Hi CaliforniaPeggy!
Always nice seeing your comments! We all have a hand in this, and we will not let Obama get swiftboated. I have no problem now telling my friends and family how out of touch with the facts and our nation's current REALITY the GOP is, and they are if they support McSame.
PS - I love NanceGreggs as much as you, I don't know what I'd do without seeing those posts! You know?

GOD BLESS YA, Hope you had a great 4th weekend!

7. so THAT'S where you all run off to - the lounge!
I'll have to come by and grab a sofa-seat and see what goes on in there - I know, it may be risky, but I'll take my chances.

I had a great time, too. Take Care! :)

4. I figured this would happen, McCain can't pull the "maverick" bullshit anymore
In 2000 it would have worked wonderfully and he probably would have actually beaten Al Gore without stealing Florida if the GOP had nominated him. But in 2008 nobody is buying it. He pandered to the GOP base in the primaries which has made him lose a lot of credibility. Obama has also been able to completely co-opt the maverick thing due to his fresh face, superior charisma, and the good fortune of not being in the same political party as George W Bush.

McCain's strategy from here on out will be to rally the base and hope he can use racism and fear-mongering to get him to 51%.

if THAT ain't the truth! He has NOTHING else going for him. That green screen speech he gave was one of the worst displays I've ever seen from ANY politician on any level - local, state, and national - and this is from the TOP of the their ticket!

6. McLiar Strikes Again - This is what I call a flip flop
Edited on Mon Jul-07-08 01:21 AM by Median Democrat
John McCain talks about the new politics, and he pissed and moaned when Rove and his goons smeared him in 2000. So, what does this man of principle do? He goes out and hires Karl Rove's protege to continue the smears on Obama. Taxes, abortion, climate change, John McCain does more 360s than Tony Hawk on a skateboard. The media obsesses over whether the word "refine" suggests some sort of position change. If you want an honest to goodness flip flop, look no further than John McCain. Here's a story of smearing done against John McCain in 2000, which he is now embracing:
