Dear Barack...
Do whatever you have to do to win. We got your back. Keeping the executive branch (and judicial appointments) out of republiCON hands is just too important to the future of this country. So. Do what you gotta do. Win.

Who's "we"?

Check below...

1. Sadly he has to run to the Center in order to win, but whatever it takes
not to keep McSame out of the White House, I guess it's worth it.

4. I'm not even all that sad about it
One, there's more people in the center than at the edges. American society is a bell curve. We need that big bulge in the middle to win. And as ... I think it was Vince Lombardi who said "winning isn't the most important thing, it's the only thing." I never agreed with that before, but this country has come to a place where it's now true. If we give the CONs four more years to gut the government, loot the treasury, and pack the courts with their feudalist sympathizers, this country won't BE America anymore. Not for any definition of the word "America" that I accept.

Secondly, I want as many people as possible to see Barack Obama as THEIR President. Enough with this "he's not my president" crap. True, I've felt that myself about bushit- but he really didn't WANT to be *my* president, or the president of anybody who works for a living (the vast majority of the American public). And, also true, the die-hards reich-wingers said that about Clinton, and he WAS a centrist. But that big bulge in the middle didn't think that way. (At least not until Lewinsky, and even then, a majority opposed impeachment.)

6. Exactly.
Selling out one's principles to win shouldn't be a reflex. I'm not saying Obama's done that - after venting, I'm now in wait-and-see mode on his FISA stance. But saying that he has his supporters' carte blanche to do anything at all - ANYTHING - to win is disheartening and ultimately self-destructive, at least if we want real change once he's in office.

Obama's image as a man of principle is one of his strongest selling points. John McCain is learning the hard way what happens when you abandon that (however much a media creation that "maverick" image of McCain was) for the "just win, baby!" strategy. Obama should not follow in his footsteps, and we should not encourage him to do so.
