Obama is a formidable orator: Where is his early media push ?
Edited on Sun Jun-22-08 02:54 PM by Trajan
Once the minds of voters are made up, it is difficult to change them.

This is a critical moment for candidates, who can either shape their own image in the minds of tens of millions of voters, or who can allow their opposition to shape their image in a far less appealing light.

Yet: Obama has become nearly invisible .... His acolytes are rarely seen in the public sphere.

When I turn on my TV, I see a new program for losing weight: I see many of those, which run at least one half hour straight. I see how to 'Flip This House', though I suppose we will be seeing less of this in the coming weeks, but that wont stop the pitchmen from saturating the airwaves with this advertising. I see beauty products and Equities strategies .... Cop shows and Reality nonsense ...

What I DON'T see is Democrats talking with voters; informing them ... teaching them ... educating them about the issues, and presenting a counterpoint to the endless RIGHT WING chatter ...

What I DON'T see is Barack Obama; Telling us what is at stake, and how he will deal with the immense slate of problems our country faces in the upcoming year .... He speaks masterfully, but if he isnt actually speaking, then someone else is ....

What I DON'T see is the Democratic party GETTING OUT IT's MESSAGE ...

If Cortisol is bad for me, and someone has a pill to reduce my belly size TEN WHOLE INCHES IN ONE WEEK ! .... Then surely the Democratic party has enough resources to buy the same infomercial time slots and INFORM the public about their philosophy and beliefs.

If I can make ONE MILLION DOLLARS if I just follow three easy steps in the 'WHACKO SWITCHO Stock Trading System' .. Then SURELY Barack Obama can buy a similar time slot and present a cogent and imaginative system of beliefs that can sway middle of the road voters, and help plants positive ideas about himself into the minds that have yet to hear much from him ....

Obama is a magical speaker ...

Obama is a masterful orator ....

He is an excellent pitchman ....

But he ain't SHIT if he isn't out there ....

I cannot understand WHY I am bombarded by advertisements by two bit shysters who have a bridge to sell me, every hour of each and every day .... And yet: NOT ONE PEEP from those who can actually change the world ... All while the Glenn Becks and Sean Hannity's of the world continue to present a twisted, false, and damaging image into the minds of those who don't know any better ....

Get your charts and graphs, Mr. Obama ... Get your anecdotes and homilies lined up ... Use the extraordinary gift you possess to convert the minds of the ignorant .... DO IT NOW, and NOT later, after the minds have ossified into thick bony layers ....

NOW is the time ..... It cannot cost any more than advertising the next 'LIPOSUCK' pill, or yet another harebrained 'Real Estate Wealth Building System' .... DON'T BE DEFINED by those who would lie and deceive .... GET OUT IN FRONT .....

I hope this is not yet another election cycle with the Democrats standing by with their fingers in their arses as the GOP clean their clock ....

GET OUT THERE .... We have some GOP fat to lose .....

1. Only two options for an "early media push":
1. Online communication

2. Buy our own media corporation.

2. I'll tell you what: Obama will LOSE if he doesn't adequately and firmly address
the flip-flopping charge! The Repugs are doing a BRILLIANT job painting Obama as a flip-flopper and the M$M is going right along with it.

Why is the Obama campaign allowing the media and the Repukes to get away with this?

McSame is the REAL flip-flopper. There is a long, long list of flip-flopping lies from this guy. Why isn't the Obama campaign addressing this?? x(

4. Yeah ... you are absolutely right ....
This has been a common weakness for the Democrats the last few decades .... unwilling to fight the street brawls in the open .... and seemingly cowering in their Ivory Towers ....

Get the FUCK OUT THERE ... and FIGHT, goddamn it ....

9. Flip Flopping?
Edited on Sun Jun-22-08 03:34 PM by simskl
Obama flipflops at around 1:10 speed compared to McLame and now I'm actually starting to hear some yapping heads on the tube talking about all McLames flipflops.

I don't think Obama is going to be anywhere near as vulnerable to this charge as Kerry was in '04 because the pukes don't have the cash to hammer him on it and his opponent is guilty of a lot more of it than he is.

27. Obama : "It would be interesting to see a debate of McCain 2000 vs McCain 2008"
He's onto it. McCain has taken every side of every issue. The Flip Flop charge cannot work for the Repugs this year unless the media really has it in for Obama.

5. I think he is blitzing red states right now...states that McCain thinks
he has locked up. In doing so, will make McCain spend needed money in those states that he would have liked to have reserved for what he considered states there were more "in-play"

6. I think that is a worderful idea ....
And I am glad he is following that path, but the 'ideas' battle happens on that stupid screen in everybody's living rooms .... that is where he 'ain't' ....

That is a mistake ....

7. CNN had the "Gas Shortage" television special on last night.....
which is a walking advertisment for Obama.

Look, there is a 50 state voter's registration drive going on.

Obama held a meeting with Governors the day before yesterday - To lay out the groundwork.
Obama spoke to the Mayor's conference in Miami yesterday - To lay out the groundwork.
Obama is advertising in 18 states, including many red ones.
Obama is getting plenty of exposure in the local press in whatever locality he shows up.
Obama's wife got so many positive stories written up about her within the last couple of weeks, it ain't even funny.
Michelle Obama's dress that she wore on the view sold out in less than 24 hours at most stores where it was being sold.
the Obama's have a 6 page spread in a magazine seen and read by millions that is selling like hotcakes.

There is time. Things are coming together.

Free media publicity is worth billions, but only those who are chosen to receive it will.
Obama's not been chosen, so he's approaching things his way.

Plus folks need a bit of a break from all of the election talk. It will reve up back shortly enough.

I'm going to hang out where the youngsters congregate and snag 'em ... :)

Just a teeny, tiny part of the movement ...

where they can't see him coming.

I'm glad you mentioned this because Trajan has a point but yours is stronger.

8. There are ads from both candidates in my state
and I'd rather he be frugal in the beginning. There are Obama offices in every state. As far as the Democratic party... well, if you have any good suggestions about how to get potential volunteers off their rear ends in June, I would like to hear them.

Are you participating in Howard Dean's Neigborhood Leader program? Are YOU getting out there talking to people?

13. Are you talking to people about Obama?
If he's going to win then people need to take some ownership and responsibility for acting on their own instead of complaining about what they think the campaign should be doing for them.

14. I speak to all whom I am exposed to ....
In my busy week .... Mostly, to counter the nonsense that is spewed by the right wing liars, whom seem to have carte blanche to say whatever they wish ...

I am not complaining about what they can do for ME, but what they can do for themselves ... as opposed to folding like a cheap umbrella ... So your left handed assertion that this is about my own ego is completely wrong ....

17. Do you think the Obama campaign manager reads DU for advice?
I doubt it. So what purpose does this post serve other than spreading worry, negativity and a passive attitude about helping the campaign?

I just get sick of post after post of free advice for the Obama campaign and I know a lot more is to come. If people are so worried then they should sign up to volunteer. Or better yet, write a letter to the editor if you think Obama needs to be in the media more. Obama is speaking on a daily basis. Why not contact a media outlet and tell them you want more coverage instead of blaming Obama? Its not like he isn't out there speaking.

Hammer away, Thor ... I get around when I can ...

I love Mr. Obama, and I think him the BEST Democratic party candidate in decades ... But they need to do extraordinary things in this extraordinary moment in history ....

Frankly, I have no need for the cynic in you .... Good bye ...

There's nothing cynical about suggesting you take a positive action like writing a letter to the editor instead of bitching and moaning on an internet message board.

18. I agree about the media ....
My point is more about BUYING time to get the exposure ... much like Perot did in 92 ....

We cannot expect the media to spin for Obama .. quite the opposite: They have a vested interest in maintaining GOP control, and their lopsided advantage in taxation and structural regulation when the GOP rule ...

Obama should buy time, and use long format advertising, instead of 30 second slots or 10 second sound bites, to promote his agenda and his worldview .....

We should NEVER expect the media to help Obama .. He needs to fight them by using them when he can, and going around them when they ignore him ...

at least six times today. There's a long one and a short one, 60 seconds and 30 seconds I suppose. The 30 second ad was on just a moment ago.

24. Because he's hitting hard on the state and municipal level right now.
First, a meeting with governors, then a meeting with mayors. VERY smart. Just because you, personally, haven't seen him doesn't mean he's not out there ratcheting up his visibility.
