Veiled and blatant racism galore but CBS addresses this: Are Dems Alluding To McCain's Age In Code?
Edited on Tue Jun-17-08 03:47 PM by blondeatlast
“It is code; there is no question it is,” Ed Rollins, a Republican strategist who helped lead President Ronald Reagan’s 1984 reelection campaign, said when age surfaced as an issue. “They are trying to raise doubts.”

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough repeatedly argued on his show last week that the Obama campaign was portraying McCain as a “doddering, old, confused fool. He needs to go to Miami Beach and play checkers.”

To Democrats, however, Republicans are imagining slights and smears where there are none as part of an attempt to silence any discussion of McCain’s vigor.

3. Well, McCain IS a doddering, confused fool. He's also old.
Maybe there's causality there, and maybe not. But the point is that he has a disturbing tendency to get very basic facts wrong about very important issues, which completely negates all of his bullshit posturing about his alleged experience and expertise. Whether that has anything to do with age is an open question: it's also possible that he's always been an idiot.

4. no codes needed. McCain is old and mentally more and more unstable
this IS a valid issue. Judgement is one of the most important assets to any president. We should be making an issue of a man who has anger management problem. Let's also remember that he spent several years as a prisoner of war. Hero, maybe...entitled to lead the free world, no. There is a decent chance that he may be broken in the head.

Call me a mean spirited ageist, but whatever.

They'll have to tiptoe around the innuendo and they'll be terrified of being labeled "liberal" or "politically correct" if they try.

This is the big, farting elephant in the room--go after the Dems for perceived slights but ignore the blatant offenses of the RW.

8. McCain IS old. Is Rollins saying he's not?
They're using an obvious straw man to make voters believe he isn't a "doddering, old, confused fool".

Good luck with that Repukes.

10. So we can't say "confused" anymore?
When McCain confuses Iraq with Iran, we can't call him on it?

When McCain confuses Sunni and Shiite Muslims, we can't call him on it?

When McCain is suddenly interested in giving hot water to dehydrated babies, we can't mention how confusing and foolish this is?

Meanwhile, republicans in TX are wearing buttons that question whether the White House will be called the White House if Obama becomes president. Nice reporting on bigotry there CBS. Keep up the half-ass work. :eyes:

12. No code needed. He's senile. He's over the hill. He's not mentally capable of being president.
He's never been mentally capable of being president, but now he's also dangerously past the point of being up to the job of president. Not being able to work a computer is reason enough to disqualify this tired old geezer.

13. McCain's age is a fact, something to worry about.
His VP choose will be very important. We should talk about other Pres. of his age group. It is part of his bio. Some may think of it as experience others might worry that he might not be up for the job. Both valid positions. It is who he is, so it can be talked about.
