Poll question: I caught some Freeper pouring coffee on my car and trying to remove my Obama bumpersticker
This morning, I was parking my car in a lot and noticed some guy giving me the hairy eyeball as I got out to head to work. It was echoey in the lot, but I could hear him say "blah blah blah blah Obama blah blah..." as I was walking away. As I turned to go out of the building, I saw out of the corner of my eye him POURING SOMETHING on my car! WTF!

So I turned around quietly and went back to the car and saw him muttering something while he was trying to remove my Obama bumpersticker. I yelled "What the FUCK are you doing, asshole!" loudly and scared the crap out of him. I grabbed his arm and told him we're going to the front office to report him.

He started crying! The guy was in his late-sixties with the usual accouterments an older vintage Freeper dumbass would wear...polyester pants and a too-tight shirt with a big beer gut, Vitalis hair slicked back, cigarette-stained teeth and the vibes of an angry old man. I felt sorry for him as he whimpered like a little schoolboy, so I asked for his license to get his name and phone number. He gave it to me. I then told him I was going to talk to the parking lot management about what to do next.

When he walked away, I noticed he had crapped in his pants.

What should I do?

50. I don't think the poster was implying that....
Slashing tires or other types of vandalism seems to be much more of a Republican thing.

It's also possible the slashed tires incident occurred during the Lewinsky scandal, or during the '96 election. They were REALLY f'ing rabid at that point.

As for why the Repukes hate the Clintons? I think it's because no matter how they tried to gridlock congress while he was President, no matter what horrible venom they spewed about Clinton and the Clenis(tm), they failed to get what they wanted. They made a huge drama about trying to impeach him, and failed at getting him out of office. They failed at everything they tried to do to the Clintons, and they're still failing because the Clinton years are still remembered by many as some of the best years in recent history.

It must be maddening to fail so much.

121. Agreed!
I think that's why the Right Wing were so hot to trot about running against Sen. Clinton this year. They were seeing it as a final attempt to bring down the Clintons and everything they stood for.

I remember in 1992 seeing "Young Americans for Freedom" people holding up signs saying "Impeach Clinton" ON ELECTION DAY! So from day one they tried to bring the Clinton's down. When Hillary Clinton became a Senator in 2000, they started immediately trying to position her as the eventual presidential nominee in 2004 or 2008, because they were salivating at the idea of one last attempt to bring down the Clintons and by doing so, claim a victory against everything they claimed the Clintons stood for.

The Right Wing press and media seems lost now that they didn't get the nominee they planned for since 2000.

125. Republican? Or "conservative"
I live in a part of the San Fernando Valley that has two churches on my block (another two, a block away, and at least four more within five blocks).

Once I left my car parked in front of my house for about an hour on a Sunday morning. Apparently, one of the good Christians walking to church took offense to my T-Rex/fish emblem, and decided to become a Vandal for Christ.

I keep wanting to get a bumper sticker that says "Put the Christ back in Christianity!"

154. I like that emblem!
I have avoided putting any kind of bumper stickers on my cars. I live in a very "conservative" county -- the county right to the south of us is a college town and usually is blue, but we are firmly red.

I did, however, purchase some bumper sticker holder magnets -- it won't damage the car or the paintjob, and if someone feels so terribly offended by my expression of political belief, they can just take the magnet. Better than spilling coffee on it.

I got six magnets just in case. :)

10. It's impressive to think that Barack Obama's ascent and candidacy is so
potent as to reveal the depth of insecurity in this Vitalis vandal.

He's in his late 60s and democracy has completely, utterly eluded him for all these many decades to a point where he has to deface someone's vehicle because it sports a pro-Obama bumpersticker.

While you showed up for work, he was standing idly around badmouthing a presidential candidate and then vandalizing your car. Nice work, buddy.

I would report the vandalism as anyone would. If the guy is a recalcitrant bigot, there's likely no help for him. But if he is in genuine need of mental health services, he is as deserving as anybody, and maybe your reporting his actions could lead to his getting needed help.

Democracy means you get to put whatever bumpersticker you want on your car and it means he doesn't have the right to prevent that from happening.

And they had their yard signs stolen or property damaged. Also, I know some people who got verbally or physically harrassed for them too.

It's not just to Obama that this has been happening.

13. I think a little compassion goes
a long way. If he is in his late sixties, he may be suffering from health and/or mental problems. He is probably the product of his generation and environmental upbringing and the thought of a black man running this country goes against everything he feels comfortable with and knows. While that does not excuse his actions, I think a bit of compassion would be warranted - he may be someones father and it may be he has liberal children, you never know, stranger things have happened.

27. I am not sure if you are being funny or if this is true
I mean, it made me LOL, either way:)

True story - at my home in a medium size cowtown/ranching community outside a larger young/enviro/yuppie/extreme wealth town, I sent dh to the library to check out both of Obama's books. Librarian told him that there were no copies of Dreams of My Father, and only one large print version of The Audacity of Hope. They used to have 10 copies of each - and all have been stolen from the library.

All of them. The librarian said it happens all the time, you'd be surprised how many books are stolen each year. But I check out tons of books in this small library, and have not until now come across any book I can't check out because it was stolen, more less that many copies. I don't know how to read this situation, but it is odd.

There were plenty of copies of John McCain's books, which I did have dh pick up, and which I can't even find enough curiousity to muddle through yet.

I don't think I'd report it to the police. Crying & crapping his pants is so much worse punishment than anything the police are going to do. If he didn't even get the sticker off, they may ask what harm was even done anyway. Just my thoughts.

42. > Here's what I've done....
I called the lot management and reported him for vandalism. They asked if I wanted to press charges. I said no. They were considering reporting him to the police to have it on record. I said to make sure it was them that are logged in as reporting it.

I then called his home number and talked to his wife and told her what happened. She was quiet and sounded very upset. I told her to have him get help. We joked briefly and she said she "kind of likes Obama", but her husband doesn't. I said that appeared to be pretty obvious. I told her I wasn't pressing charges, but it should be a lesson to him that he really needs to get help.

I wished her a nice day and hopefully that's the end of it. Ferchrissakes...

One main reason I even brought all this up is because I've hear reports from others getting Obama lawn signs stolen and some instances of people getting their cars "keyed"... we're not even in the full season of Republican demonization yet...

69. There is no way
that he will "get help" as a result of this when you opted to not press charges. As a retired psychiatric social worker, I can say that without any doubt, if his behavior was a matter of a mental illness or simply an anti-social personality disorder, the failure to press charges allows him to continue on his merry way.

The charges that could have been pressed could have allowed a court to order an investigation into what his troubling behavior stems from. It is important to always press charges in these situations, no matter if the person is 13 or 63.

I mean, that's pretty bad. He probably isn't some mental reject or psycho-type dude anyway.
Since zulchzulu called the guy's wife and talked to her, she'll know about it, and perhaps between her knowing about that incident and him crapping his pants, he won't do something like this again.

Not out of shame mind you, but because he doesn't want to crap his pants again.

I was behind reporting this guy to the cops until the part where he soiled himself.

There's something wrong there.

That isn't a normal reaction to the moderately high stress level you described. This guy needs help, and that's coming from someone who swore I'd show the next asshat who calls me a traitor to my country the difference between a pacifist and a leftist.

45. I would back off. Not because it is the right thing to do but because
I feel sorry for the guy. I once had a crazy old man call me up and make animal sounds into the phone. I hung up and realized I had caller ID. I called him back and he was an elderly man. I told him to stop calling or I would call the police. He started crying and apologizing. He kept saying "Yes sir" (I have a very obvious female voice). I never reported him and he never called again. I really felt bad for him but did this stop his harassing phone calls to others? I don't know. So maybe holding him to account may prevent further problems.

64. Your friend: stink bait....
I am not a fisherperson, but became acquainted with stink-bait when I had an office with parking spaces near the door because we had delivery people in and out all day. I paid dearly for those spaces, too.

Another business on the second floor had people who would routinely park in the spaces. I tried talking to management, to the other tenants, putting up "your car will be towed" signs, etc., and it didn't do shit.

Then a young woman who worked for me told me how she had solved the problem at the condos where she lived.

One night when she came home after midnight (she worked second shift), there was that damned BMW parked there again. So she had her boyfriend's fishig tackle in her trunk from the previous weekend's outing. She went and got the stink bait and smeared it all over the driver's side door handle.

The next morning she got up early to watch him enter his car. He unlocked the car, got inside, started the car, adjusted the mirror, etc....all the things we do when we get in our cars to go some place.

Then he smelled his fingers....

If you know stink bait, you know how putrid it is. And it's oil-based so it lasts FOREVER.

The guy never parked in that space again.

So the next time the tenants in our office building parked in our spaces, I went out and christened their doorhandles---ALL of them.

That was the end of the problem.

If you know where this guy parks, you might want to give him a little introduction to the joys of fish-bait.

You decided the right thing to do would be to just let it go. I think scaring the shit out of a person (literally), is punishment enough. Then I might take him a fruit basket, with an Obama sticker for his own car.

Returning with kindness is not only the best method of guilt for the guy, it also teaches him that you are not the enemy that he perceived.

Let him know you were pretty angry with his behavior and that you thought about other options, but, on reflection, decided to let it go. If it had been battery acide or something it might be different, but pouring coffee on your car doesn't seem like enough of a reason to screw the guy up.

You might try talking to him a bit to see if he's really as screwed up as he seems to be.

Loss of inhibitions and unusual behavior can be an early sign of Alzheimer's disease. Also, he may well have been a Democrat all his life. It's not unusual for people with Alzheimer's to switch their opinions .

107. If they happened in the order you place them, I could see mentally ill.
The way he tells the story they seem normal. Now if you notice someone with a pantload of shit scraping bumperstickers off of cars while crying, mentally ill sounds about right.

Or in the "I'm Beyonce Knowles" sense?

127. This is the result
of serious racism. Someone who hates a man for his color alone.

He vandalized your car because of his hate.

I think pressing charges is a good idea. I have sympathy for the guy but not for his actions or his hate.

CRAPPED HIS PANTS!!!!!

Ewwwwww.

Politics is nasty business, in the scheme of things, you get to wash your car...and he will be embarrassed for many a year to come...:)

There are times when you win...why gloat...;)

143. Assuming it really happened you should have pressed charges as he
had no business doing that, plenty of pro-bush stickers still around for example and a small handful of McCain ones and while I dont like them I dont try to remove them so this guy needs to learn a lesson and pressing charges teaches it.

158. I understand what you mean, but . . .
if this really did happen, and if this man is mentally ill, this might be an opportunity for him to get some help. Anumber of years ago, David Letterman's house was broken into. When he learned that the woman who did it was mentally ill (schizophrenia), he declined to press charges. Several years later, after continuing to struggle with her mental illness, she was eventually hit by a train as she wandered down the tracks. Perhaps if he'd pressed charges, she could have gotten some help.

164. If you beat the crap put of this old fool...
...then I bet he will think twice before defacing another car that he's decided he simply doesn't like. Give the old fool a mountain of undesirable consequences, like a shattered jaw or hip. I'm sorry, but at this point I am so sick and tired of NeoCon BushieThink drones that I think it's time we started fighting back! When we encounter someone such as this old goat we should be as firm and ferocious as possible, they only respond to strength.

166. On second thought...
I guess I got carried away, we shouldn't actually support breaking the hips of elderly vandals. For the record:

No matter how angry you are, physical violence is only called for to defend yourself.

With that said, I still think you should be ferocious in a LEGAL way.

I don't care what age the guy was at. We have to stop this before they go nuts and try more hostile things.

But because you may also get in trouble it is your call. Get a lawyer whatever you do.

173. This is a pantload...
And you should be lucky you are not being graded on your work. The fiction is rotten, and it also paints you as a bad citizen, you know. We don't allow valdals to go unpunished.
I've been in an airplane near crash, been evacuated out of several places due to bomb threats, spent a day half mile from a fighting front, and I've seen lots of criminals get caught red handed and dragged away. I've never seen any one defecate in their pants from fear. Jet on fire, Atlantic below, bowels remained set for all.
If this story were true and you failed to press charges you are not a good neighbor. Tell me, what was his method of trying to remove your sticker?
The best part of this little tale is the mention of Vitalis! Have not seen or heard that word in maybe 25 years. Do they still make it? Wow, Vitalis!
