Obama Should Propose A Barbecued Rib Throw Down W/McCain At His House (ala Bobby Flay)
Edited on Fri Jun-13-08 12:36 PM by cryingshame
It would help:

*Introduce Obama to Americans on a comfortable level
*It'd help dispel the elitist myth, make him appear less "exotic".
*It'd tweak the way the Media kissed McCain's ass by showing up at HIS house for barbecue
*It'd tweak the candidate's wives cookie recipe crap they do every cycle

I see no downside to this, except maybe vegetarians might feel slighted. Maybe Dennis K. could offer a BBQ Tofu recipe. What do you all think?

1. I don't know. I think Obama needs to run as who he is.
It's gotten him this far. If he starts trying to be a commoner at barbeques, it might take away some appeal, and not add anything new. Part of what people seem to like about Obama is his elitism, or to use a less loaded term, his noble bearing.

Maybe that's just because I'm a vegetarian!

2. I see a big downside to it
Black man, BBQ? Why not hand him a watermelon and a jews harp?

3. isn't that what they are trying to establish?
The "exotic" part of it, I think, comes from the fact that Obama did not live the life of an African American cultural experience. He lived in Hawaii and Indonesia. That's the "exotic" part Buchanan is talking about. A bi-racial person raised outside the American black experience. He didn't experience the typical American culture until he was in Chicago's south side, right? And even then he had a Harvard education under his belt.
