Dear John,
I just heard your comments that it is “not too important” that the troops come home from Iraq, as long as you can brag that the surge is working. Screw their families, let's keep them over there a hundred more years. Sure there will a be a few of them that have their limbs blown off every month, but as long as there aren't as many dead bodies as there were last month then it is mission accomplished as far as you are concerned.
I mean it's not like you have to worry about any of your kids getting killed over there, you aren't going to have to worry about sacrificing anything. You can just count on a bunch of young men and women you don't even know to risk their lives and get torn away from their families for you, while you just stand at the podium and talk tough. Obviously if they aren't your kids they must not be too important, so they can stay in Iraq forever as you are concerned, right?
You have shown that you will stand up to ensure that our troops are not able to leave Iraq anytime soon, you just proved that recently when you spoke out against veterans benefits. Never mind the fact that you are currently collecting $58,000 a year in veterans benefits yourself despite your status as a multimillionaire, you had no problem denying benefits to the millions of other veterans who are struggling to get by. Your reasoning? You tell us that if the benefits are too generous no one will reenlist, and you won't have the Army you need to keep the occupation going.
It is not important to you when the troops come home or what kind of benefits they receive when they get back, all that is important to you is that you are able to force them to stay in an oil-rich country while you party it up at home with your wife's beer money.
Of course the troops who you opposed giving benefits to will never see a penny of your wife's beer money, and they will be forced to sit in Iraq hoping that one day they can come home to make living that will provide for their families needs. They won't have your wife's beer money to pay for the counseling they will need for the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder they are suffering from, they won't have your wife's beer money to pay for the education they will need to get a job when you finally let them come home, they won't have your wife's beer money to buy groceries to feed their families with, and they certainly won't have your wife's beer money to pay for the high gas prices that came about as a result of your party's insane energy policies.
Maybe that is the reason that it is not too important to you when the troops come home. It is not too important to you because you know that they will come home to a country in which people like you who screamed “Support the Troops” at the top of their lungs are completely unwilling to support them. Of course it doesn't matter to you that they don't get the support, but it certainly would not be good for your public image if people actually spoke to the veterans who you screwed over and know your image does matter to you.
We know that you have spent years trying to build your image up, and you know damn well that the image that has been built of you is a false image. You know that you are no maverick, but rather you are a tool. You are tool of an Administration that has killed, tortured, and maimed. You are tool of a corporate culture of greed and corruption, which wants to use the military for their own interests while ignoring the interests of the American people. You are a tool John, and the American people are about to show you that they know you are a tool.
Unlike you the American people believe that it is important that our troops come home soon, and unlike you the American people will provide for the troops when they get home. You may be surprised John, but Americans believe that if a multimillionaire like you is able to get $58,000 a year in veteran's benefits, then the less fortunate should get some benefits as well.
Bringing the troops home and getting them the benefits they deserve is important to us even if you say it is not. There are some things we don't find to be too important though, you are one of those things we don't find important John, and come November we will show you just how unimportant you are.
Sincerely,
A Citizen
