TWENTY ONE WEEKS. 21 meaningful contributions to Obama's campaign?
Hello everyone. Obama has the nomination wrapped up not only in delegates...but now in the support and endorsement of his chief rival, Hillary Clinton.

What will we do? We have a tremendous opportunity to excite an even wider audience than was reached for the Democratic primaries. I'm hoping we can approach this adventure with not a jaundiced eye....but with a sense of mission and purpose.

Obviously, there are some who will use every waking hour either in they pay of Obama's campaign or as full time volunteers doing all they can to get him to the WHite House.

But what can you do, Mrs. Democrat who's working part time and who is raising 2 kids? What can you do, Mr. Democrat who has a full time job, serves on the housing association board, etc.?

Maybe we can't eke out time every single day. But can we commit to ONE SUBSTANTIVE ACT per week for 21 weeks? How wonderful would that be? Whether donating a certain $$ amount, making signs, convincing a friend, relative, or coworker to vote if they haven't done that...or convince them why Obama is their choice if they are regular voters.

Maybe one of the 21 weeks you go sit in a local Barack Obama office and make coffee and encourage the canvassers in their work.

Maybe one of the 21 weeks you have an Obama calling party.

If we all just count off the weeks by thinking of 21 things of significance we can do away from DU....away from our computer....that would be tremendous.

Write a paper and ink letter to your editor. Write one to your congressperson. Do the things that take a little more effort and have longer lasting results.

WE CAN DO IT!

2. I'm not surprised unifying noncontroversial messages like mine
sink so fast....I'm not alone in this. It's just a sad commentary on what is going on these days. All you DU'ers who are mad at the media's "if it bleeds it leads" mentality need to remember which posts you're replying to the most.

3. Great Idea. K&R.
Imagine if we all do just one thing a week.

Last week, I donated to Senator Obama and ordered a yard sign and two bumper stickers. One of the bumper stickers is for my sister's car. I also donated to the DNC. Small sums, but every little bit helps. Now, I just have to figure out how I'll contribute this week.

4. yes. and then some will do the REALLY big things too
like helping register voters (such as African Americans in Georgia) who have not voted recently or at all.

Putting a yard sign up is powerful. Especially if there aren't a lot in your area yet. Putting a bumper sticker on your car is powerful.

Calling others to get them to register...that is amazing. Organizing a watch party for speeches, convention, debate...is powerful.

so many things to do that don't even cost money.

8. Registration is one of the best things you can do
Newly registered voters have good paritipation rates.

This may be the real key to this thing.

5. A wonderful idea, and your right, people need to realize they are
just as responsible for what occurs inside our government, we have ignored our role for too long and look where it has gotten us, its time to quit relying on others if one truly desires change.

7. Hell yes - why do threads like this not get more attention??!?
It is probably the thing that pisses me off about DU most - and frankly
why i spend less and less time on here.

I am far far far far more impressed by people who call for and advocate getting
out and doing the REAL WORK of winning this thing!!

No offense, becase DU is fun - but nothing that is said on here makes one whit of difference
to the outcome - whereas - as you say - something as simple as helping your local Obama
campaign office have a bit of extra energy - or and extra $20 donation - or simply talking to
a friend who is non political or turned off - and turning them on...

those things will make a difference

I have registeres 1100 democrats in the last 18 months - called TX, OH, and several other states
from my computer.

We all have to work harder - as Obama says in the video to the troops - twice as hard - between
now and November!

If like me you come on DU from time to time as a BREAK (and yes that means you BREAK the DU
addiction) - the rec and kick up threads like this one.

and ignore any and all freaking Flame bait - no matter how much it steams you... it's just a freeper anyway.

Bravo and K&R heavily!

13. thank you. I think DU needs to follow Obama lead and have new type of politics
not one of destruction and division...one of addition and positives....

we should focus on what we personally can do away from our computer. the power of putting a pen in hand or dialing a phone or driving to a meeting....much more actualizing than clicking on links.

9. Great idea!
I get paid bi-weekly and have made a donation from each paycheck since the primaries started. I may have to split it in half now and give half to Obama and half to the DNC. Plus I want to donate to down-ballot races, too.

Gee... I need another job. :-)

14. KUDOS to you!!
the key is all about numbers. if we normally sign up 1 million voters. we sign up 3 million. if 50% of 1 million show up normally....then 50% or more of 3 million will show up. we just have to want this...and we must make a statement of complete repudiation of Bush. Finally, we have a candidate to do that.
