Overheard just now
at the gym where I work:

"I'm voting Democratic for the first time in my life, to vote for Obama. And I just volunteered to work on a voter registration drive. Are you registered? You're OK, then, I'll leave you alone now..."

This is a middle-aged woman talking.

6. I overheard two guys at the gym a couple of weeks
ago. One's a repuke who plans on voting for Obama. Can't believe how bad chimp screwed up. The other is leaning McCain, but the Obama supporter then reminded him that McCain wants to be in Iraq for 100 years. Then the not-too-bright McCain guy came back with, "Well maybe he'll propose some sort of plan for getting us out eventually" to which the Obama guy responded that the U.S. economy is in the toilet and we can't afford Iraq and we have to get out. The McCain guy still didn't sound overly convinced, but they both agreed that the economy is on the brink and something's got to be done and soon.

This is an area of Southern Cal where it's rare to hear anyone mention politics, so the fact that this discussion was happening at all is a good sign.
