Um, does Michelle know about this?

Presumptive US Democratic Presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) pumps fists with a supporter on stage during a campaign rally in Bristow, Virginia, June 5, 2008.

persepective, doesn't it?

13. Be careful of stereotypes - you saw this picture and assumed a lot.
we don't know anything about this guy other than he is white.

18. OMG- you're right! Clearly that is a photo of a GM exec undercover
at the rally. The underarm sweatstains are a clear giveaway of someone trying too hard to blend in!

21. I didn't say they have a problem...it was just on all the various news shows...
...usually as a "kicker" story. They invariably treated it as cute, but I think it might catch on. My only problem would be a room full of thousands of people with their fists in the air. That could prove to be an interesting visual.

;)

The good news is, Michelle has a good and decent man. He wouldn't think twice about it. And if he even started to think about it, well, let's just say Michelle's got that don't-even-think-about-it look down pat.

23. Don't-Even-Think-About-It
I was noticing that the other day. I suspect that Barak doesn't get too many easy passes from Michelle.

I can see him a year from now, trying to end an arguement with "...But I'm the President!?" And she just stands there with her hands on her hips giving him that look. Aren't enough Secret Service Agents in the world to save you from that!

15. I remember when he came out on stage last night
This was the first person he greeted on the left. They were about 20 feet in front of me! Pretty badass.

I got to shake his hand, too :)

17. It's SOOOO easy for me to put myself in the place of the guy in the cap.
He's not that much different demographically (or even physically - sigh) from myself, from all appearances. There's a kind of serious and sincere intensity in his gaze (look at his eyes). He's apparently waited in line and invested time and effort to be on the "cusp of history" ... with a sense of "before I die, I'm going to celebrate!" I don't think for a minute he's unaware of how PERSONAL he's being ... an expression of love. And respect.

The expression on Obama's face is not one of laughing AT ... but one of celebrating WITH. It's joy. (Not comedy.)

It's iconic. Truly.

24. Even though I'm "merely" an aged honkie ... I agree.

I don't live under a rock ... or behind walls of fear. I've enjoyed many, many relationships with an entire rainbow of people in my life and have the (often embarassing to the butt-clenched folk) temerity to explore all manner of cultural attitudes and expressions ... the kind of stuff "polite people just don't do." (I've always thought that the only interesting topics to discuss are politics, religion, and sex. Race is most certainly "politics.")

As a Viet Nam vet, I'm fairly familiar with such hand gestures ... brothers ... although we usually opt for the mutual thumb-grip. (Fraternities have ALWAYS used such 'recognition' signs.)

Excuse me if I sound essentialist...because it definitely sounds it.
