We're all gonna be okay.
Y'know, New York is truly the "Capitol City of the World". Love it or not... (and, I do.) ...it is undeniably the crossroads of mankind at this point in history.
In two weeks, the entire world will be watching New York City again. On Sunday, August 29th... the world will specifically focus on a beautiful patch of green called Central Park.
I love Central Park.
Hell... for 13 years of my life I've been called "That Guitar Man from Central Park". It's where I play my music. It's where I spend some of my most beautiful moments, and many of my best days. I love this town. I really do. My name is David Ippolito.
Listen... outside of staying informed and voting, I've never been political. My whole life, I'm a registered Independent. I have allegiance to no party or ideology. I have only an allegience to my own conscience.
But, I'm as disgusted as anyone that New York City has been tapped to host a convention to nominate a man for president, who I feel is the most short-sighted, elitist, morally bankrupt and stupid man to hold that office in my lifetime.
But, the RNC, in it's uniquely exploitive way, has moved the date of the Republican National Convention closer to the anniversary of September 11. This decision was made, albeit, before the world new that this administration had been planning all along to wage a war in Iraq... to manipulate the American people's emotions and use the deaths of our friends and neighbors downtown to advance their own twisted policies and world view.
So... yeah... I've got a lot of stuff to do.
Now, I'm not a fist-in-the-air kinda guy. (Well, sometimes.)
But, I think alot more gets done... a lot more change is affected with reason, Truth, and the most powerful force in the Universe... Love. Music is an expression, an instrument, a medium for all of those things. That's why I've devoted so much of my time, effort, money and music to help affect, in some small way, a change.
Today... I'm confident that more good people will listen to reason and ultimately listen to the little Voice that whispers in our hearts. That Voice speaks more softly than the fear that screams in our heads, but it is infinitely more powerful and constant.
Now, understandably, in many people, the fear is screaming pretty loudly these days. Everyone across the country watched the World Trade Center fall on their TV screens like a movie... we New Yorkers were here. But, that fear is also being augmented by a steady chorus, orchestrated by the men and women who's aim it is to use that fear to forward their own misguided, selfish agendas.
But, I think the little Voice of Truth and Reason will ultimately touch enough hearts and and raise enough consciousness to alter this course we're on.
Now, yeah, "You may say I'm a dreamer..."
But, I'm not the only one. (Thanks, John.)
I'll definitely be in Central Park on Sunday, August 29th. I hope one or two million, peaceful, intelligent, powerful people join me.
Then, I'll be on stage with Roger Bartett, David Williams and some other friends at the "Concert for Change" on September 1st. (You can find out about that if you Google me.)
Oh, yeah... in the meantime, keep sending this song around. It's FREE. It's my gift to you... to pass on to EVERYONE you know. "Get Out Our House!"
http://www.getoutourhouse.comSee you in New York City.
