Clinton is NOT Conceding or Acknowledging... Don't Open the Champagne Yet - Updated.
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 10:35 AM by K Gardner
UPDATE: McAuliffe states AP Story is 100% FALSE. Ickes on MSNBC states it is false. She will NOT concede or acknowledge Obama as the nominee tonight. MSNBC has retracted the AP story (below) as FALSE.

Clinton may concede delegate race to Obama tonight
By BETH FOUHY, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton will concede Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, campaign officials said, effectively ending her bid to be the nation's first female president.

The former first lady will stop short of formally suspending or ending her race in her speech in New York City. She will pledge to continue to speak out on issues like health care. But for all intents and purposes, the two senior officials said, the campaign is over.

Most campaign staff will be let go and will be paid through June 15, said the officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge her plans.

30. Exactly
She had a weak hand to play after today as it was, while the media and Democratic leaders all still needed to be minimally careful with their exact wording concerning how "likely" an Obama win was. Now Obama's magic number will be reached with a concession by Clinton that Obama has the delegates he needs to win the nomination. It's official and it will be reported as official just as loudly as McCain is now considered the Republican nominee even though the Republican Convention has not been held yet. Numerous prior Clinton backers will now be congratulating Barack Obama and talking about the need for our Party to unite behind him.

It's fine for Clinton's campaign to officially be comatose rather than officially dead. If the sky somehow did fall in on Obama with some kind of terrible Chicago based scandal suddenly swallowing him up live, she can be there to pick up those unlikely pieces. It might even help some of Hillary's most die hard supporters acclimate themselves to the reality of Obama's win if they have a limbo period of purgatory for a few weeks to adjust before dealing with the fact that Hillary is actually backing Barack.

11. I'd be happy if she suspends her campaign and endorses Obama
I think ending it could cause issues with paying off the campaign debt. So suspension would probably be best. That's how Edwards did it.

31. Even if they pledge, the Clinton campaign has said repeatedly
that they don't "vote" until the convention.

SHe may try and switch enough people who have already pledge to vote for her come August to force a floor fight.

Ans she doesn't need extensive campaign funds to do it, she just needs to find ways to keep herself relevant.

33. I think that these conflicting messages
coming from the campaign are quite telling. I am sure AP did not go out on a limb like that after talking to some lowly staffer. There must be a tornado (sorry, tornadoes on my mind, I am under a warning for anothre half hour :-() of rumors and conflicting forces among the major players.

35. Hillary never pivoted off of 'media math'
Plain and simple. If you're defending why you should stay in the race, then you aren't on the path to victory. Hillary made some good media decisions earlier, like attacking them for not being tougher on Obama. They folded like a tent and started scrutinizing him more. Obama has done a good job of keeping Hillary on the defense, defending why she should not drop out. He who wins the media battle wins the primary race.

Once the polls close in MT and SD, I think she'll still "concede" or "suspend" the campaign.

On Edit: This is just a hunch. We'll see what happens soon enough.
