Clinton Considering Challenging New Magic Number of Delegates (ABC News)

After she won Puerto Rico last night, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, was asked if she may challenge the new "magic number" of delegates the Democratic National Committee says is needed to clinch the nomination -- 2,118.

"That’s a question we’re going to be considering," Clinton said. "Because obviously I still believe, I was pleased that the electoral results of the primaries were accepted that was the basis for the decisions that were made which is something I've been arguing for months as you know. And I was also pleased that Florida was fully seated but the half vote penalty I think is unwarranted under the circumstances and I thought Michigan was in violation of the rules so we’re going to decide how to proceed and depending upon what the outcome of that decision is we will either mount a challenge or not but obviously it would have an impact on the number of delegates necessary to pledge the nomination."

All of which is to say - Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, may reach 2,118 this week, but Clinton may assert that doesn't mean anything.

7. Those goal posts are set in a river of Jello.
At this point, not even Bill Cosby could give me any comic relief. Well, on second thought, he was pretty funny.

9. I wrote this last night but:
If they push this to 2209

Obama can get 2209 as is with the .5 seating of MI & FL...

His delegate count is currently 2071

There are 13.5 Edwards delegates out there.

There are 203 supers remaining

There are 30 add ons remaining.

That leaves a total of 246.5 up for grabs, not including Montana and SD, total of 16 delegates per state.

Lets assume the split is 8 per candidate per state. He nets 16 which brings him to 2087

He needs 123 delegates to get to 2209, 50% of the remaining delegates (supers, add-ons, & edwards). She has STILL lost.

Now assuming she wants to fight the Michigan seating...Obama will need 2147.5 now or 2238.5 if they push it to 2209.

10. It could also be
considering the long answer that the opposite impression is the correct one. There is no magic number for Hillary, no possibility of a convention fight where hefty defections would not immediately occur to render it only a token of resentment. As such the final paradox is that the more she fights the less likely any scenario where a second ballot or defections to her might occur. No shift has been allowed from any of her recent gains, none is predicted. The answer is mainly a stall as is befitting the stoppage of a huge and magnificent juggernaut. The words are dignified and lengthy so as to provide no memorable sound-bite, no fixed commitment or act of too solid defiance.

And it is a blog from ABC.
