Splitting the FL & MI Babies, Party Unity (AND Wexler for Veep!)

Splitting the Florida and Michigan Babies; Unifying the Party
PLUS: Wexler for Veep!

I should say first off I don't have a dog in the hunt. I support neither Obama nor Clinton in this nomination race and couldn't tell you now whether I'd vote for either of them next November. I've stated long ago that both of those candidates have plenty of supporters, so I'll be supporting the voters this year, since they don't have nearly enough support.

With that said, this morning's meeting in the DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee (RBC) has been an interesting one to watch, and the DNC is to be congratulated for airing the laundry in public in a way that one could never imagine the RNC doing in light of a similar internecine battle.

My overall take on the proceedings, for those with short attention spans: The party, and the supporters of both Obama and Clinton must agree to the Florida compromise which nets a 19 delegate advantage for Clinton while giving delegates at the convention a 50% vote. They must also agree to the Michigan state party's compromise of awarding the Michigan delegates 69/59 in Clinton's favor with a 50% vote at the convention.

And while it's not necessarily germane to the decisions being made by the DNC RBC today, Rep. Robert Wexler of Florida should be made Barack Obama's Vice Presidential nominee.

For the longer explanation of all of the above, please read on...

1. Wexler is my Rep. here in PB County and to say we're so proud of

him is a major understatement. It was his synagogue that Barack gave that wonderful town hall meeting speech. I also thought of him as VP. He's very, very smart, likable and an unstoppable worker. I agree with you and thanks for a great post.

5. nice article but if you really don't have a preference
I find it silly for you to say you don't have a preference for the presidential campaign.

Perhaps it is part of your wanting to be fair or neutral,

but a person would have to be deaf, dumb, blind or living in a cave to
not have a preference, especially considering how impt it is to get
it right this time.

But the rest of your blog is just fine.

8. But nothing...

If you wanted me to tell you who I think McCain should pick for Veep, I'd be happy to do that as well. Nonetheless, yes, I'd be delighted to see Wexler as Veep. With *anybody* as the Presidential nominee!

Does that make ya go "hmmm"? If so, not sure why.

13. What makes me go hmmmm, brad..is
I see a huge difference between hilary and Obama and Wexler is for Obama so he wouldn't fit very well with hilary.

Hmmmmmmm.

7. I didn't say I didn't have a preference...
I said I'm "not a supporter" of either Obama or Clinton. I also said (if you read the full article) that I don't think Republicans should even be allowed to put up a candidate this year.

Who I might or might not "prefer" between Obama and Clinton, I believe, is rather irrelevant to the points made in the article.

12. oh, can Fl afford to lose such a progressive Dem? consider what Wasserman Schultz is doing
have you been keeping up with how "Democrat" Debbie Wasserman Schultz
has been enabling, no not just enabling, but outright protecting
republican congressmen from Florida?

Can Florida afford to lose one of the best dems, Wexler?
