A Lifelong Republican ...
Just receive this from a friend written about her husband who just died:

(He) "never stopped growing and changing. He was a lifelong Republican—for an interesting reason: because his favorite president, Abraham Lincoln, had been a republican. Over the years he became more liberal, and we agreed about most things in politics. This year I think I almost had him convinced to change his party, and he WAS an Obama supporter."

This time ...

2. Obama is really something else ...
I keep hearing stories like this. He has struck a genuine and deep chord. Never seen anything like it in my 60+ years.

3. My Dad died recently
Cancer.

I have to wonder if he would have supported Senator Obama. He was a lifelong Republican.

My mom was >this< close to being on board with Senator Edwards. Unfortunately, she is convinced that Obama is the antichrist (don't ask :( )

If Daddy were still alive, I think he and I would have had a chance at her.

I am still working on her. :)

4. My dad died of cancer last year
Edited on Wed May-28-08 10:50 PM by Jake3463
He was GOP but hated McCain. Mom switched from GOP to Dem in PA to vote Obama and actually started liking him before I did.

Wish my dad was alive too because I know he would have voted Obama

He tore up a bar in the south when he was in the army because his black friend couldn't get in.

5. Lost my mom, an non-smoker,
to lung cancer in '95. Wonderful memories of beating the pavement with her to campaign for Bill in '92, and celebrating with the Dems at the Portland Hilton on election night. I'd like to think she'd be for Obama. I think she would have. She is alway with me.

12. A tender and touching message.
I've never seen so many Republicans making the full jump from the GOP to the leftwing side of the Democratic Party. It's simply inspiring.

Thank you for posting your message. I'm sorry for your friend in losing her mate.

14. To misquote Woody Allen in "Hannah and Her Sisters"
If Abe, TR and Ike came back today and saw all of the things being done in the name of the Republican Party, they would never stop throwing up.
