So you've decided to vote for John McCain.
Edited on Wed May-28-08 04:37 AM by stratomagi
Your candidate lost the primary, and that good for nothing weasel of an opponent to your candidate is now the nominee. What the fuck are those kool-aid drinkers thinking?! Anyway, you're really hurt. You've invested time and money in this candidate and have been a supporter of theirs for years. You knew this year they would run and win the nomination and beat the living snot out of any candidate the Republicans would throw at them.

But alas, they lost. And you are mad. You are so mad at the other candidate and their supporters!!! Fucking assholes! THEY RUINED EVERYTHING! You'll show them a thing or two though, oh buddy yes you will. You're not gonna take this sitting down. The other candidate stole the nomination from yours. They need to pay! Fuck staying home, you're voting. You're voting against that turd just like you did in the primary. COME NOVEMBER YOU'RE VOTING FOR JOHN MCCAIN!

If this sounds like you then you've come to the right place. We're going to imagine a world where you got your revenge, you and others like you voted for John McCain despite the fact that he stands against practically everything you believe in just to get back at that bastard that stole YOUR DREAM!

Aftermath of a John McCain win in November:

1. I'm not going to spout off what everyone does on this board when they react to your decision to vote for John McCain. I'm sure you heard plenty of times how he's gonna get up to 3 superduper-conservative judges on the supreme court and have Roe v. Wade overturned. The point is that would be the icing on the cake. Have a problem with your civil rights being violated? Forget that jazz because the court ain't gonna hear it.

2. Don't even worry about your rights however because with gas at 8 dollars a gallon you're not even gonna be leaving the house much. Your commute to work, if its close enough, consists of rollerblading 5 to 10 miles one way every day. You keep your car in the garage for emergencies, empty of course lest someone break in and siphon gas from it. You keep the gas in large plastic jugs in your bedroom so you know its safe and secure. Meanwhile the CEO of Exxon has commissioned the building of an exact replica of Scrooge's money bin from Duck Tales in Dubai of all places.

3. You used to own your own house but you foreclosed because you couldn't pay your mortgage and really no one gave a rats ass, so now you live in a crummy apartment complex because this slumlord doesn't do credit checks. Oh and you've decided as a lifestyle choice its better to not have a phone. No way for anyone looking for money to reach you.

4. Because of gas prices and because the value of the dollar tanked due to all the money China loaned us to pay for the Iraq war, which president McCain said would be absolutely over before the end of his second term, you shop almost exclusively at WalMart for your groceries because hey, at 5 dollars a can, corn is a steal!

5. That crazy guy you see downtown every day, the one that talks craziness to invisible people and only has brief lucid periods where he begs for change. The one with the 3 purple hearts on his beat up Red Sox cap, yeah well after his 4th tour in Iraq he just couldn't handle life anymore, but the VA said he was totally fine. Now you cross the street just to avoid him because his loud arguments with nobody make you uncomfortable.

6. Now that the draft has been reinstated president McCain is sure that the 7th surge will do the trick and the Iranians will love us and quit blowing up all those Krispie Kremes we try to give them. Oh by the way your son was drafted for the surge. This is actually great because its not like you would've been able to afford sending him to college. And besides he'll have some sort of healthcare, which less than half of us have anymore.

And you are perfectly fine with this because hey; at least you showed that no good asshole and his cult like supporters!

1. mccain is NOT going to win, and most of the Clinton supporters will vote for Obama
if he is the nominee, which it most likely will be

In addition, the number of young people have been registering in record numbers

Bob Barr is running as a Libertarian, and Ron Paul will not be silent during their convention

Those Clinton supporters that refuse to vote for the nominee if it isn't Hillary, are going to be quite disappointed how irelevent they are

3. Agreed
though I've come up against this reasoning of voting for McCain out of spite numerous times. The stakes are too high I think this time around to throw away a vote because you didn't get your way.

33. If the majority of people in the country believe that the Supreme Court doesn't matter
If the majority of the people in the country believe healthcare isn't important
If the majority of the people in the country believe staying in Iraq isn't important
If the majority of the people in the country believe the high price of food and energy isn't important
If the majority of the people in the country believe that the next president should be someone who voted with bush over 98% of the time

Then you are right

but fortunately, that isn't the case

don't want us permanently in Iraq, are tired of the unregulated futures industry which have contributed to the high energy and food prices, are tired of jobs getting off-shored, care for the environment, are for the GI bill, the head start program, children's healthcare, and becoming part of the Kyoto accords again

will NOT follow your lead

10. Too late. Lifelong Democrats are threatenig to quit if Obama is nominated.
Edited on Wed May-28-08 07:29 AM by Perry Logan
Obama is already getting crushed by McCain in the polls, while Hillary continues to beat McCain. And this doesn't even factor the 12 million or so Dems who will quit the party, and the really juicy list of scandals the Repubs will use against Obama.

And dont forget the charming Michelle, who uses psychotic imagery in discussing popular Democratic Presidents, and his followers, who seem to be just plain fucked in the head.

The only question remaining is: how much will Obama drag down our Congressional candidates?

Edited on Wed May-28-08 07:46 AM by CaptJasHook
The truth is that both candidates are less than ideal for most posters at DU. Half the people on this board wouldn't have selected either Hillary or Obama in January.

So the lesser of the two candidates lost, or is losing, or will lose. Both candidates "played some politics". Yours lost, Obama won.

So is the hope of you, Methuenprogressive, 2rth2pwr, Indimuse, etc. that you all will somehow change somebodies mind? Losing cause.
Is the hope that you will all somehow wake up the "sheep" as you call them? How ridiculously pompous and elitist is that?
Are you just wanting someone to tell you how important you are? Okay, you are important.
Or do you just thrive on conflict?

Really, the only conclusions that I can come to is that you are either being paid to stir the GD/P pot, have some sort of borderline personality disorder, or are just plain thick headed. Most of you seem too intelligent to be thick headed. So I am down to two.

17. How much has Obama "dragged down" our Congressional candidates so far?
We've had three special congressional elections since the primary contests began, and in each, the Democrat beat the Republican in heavy-GOP districts, despite the fact that the RNC linked the Dem candidates to "the liberal Obama and the feminist Pelosi" in ad blitzes before the election.

Just because you want something to be true, really really really badly, doesn't make it true.

Fail.

25. nice post
For me it's pretty simplistic. It would be enough to look at nothing else other than the Patriot act to tell me this bickering between the Hill and O camps is worth about as much as a bucket of piss in the larger picture. Department of Homeland Security??.... yea right. We have the FBI to examine crimes inside our country and the CIA to take care of things outside.. now we have the wonderful Department Of H.S. who take care of the small stuff.. like spying on its own citizens among other things. Why, there's a high probability someone from that department is looking in these forums right now.

I'm sorry if some people see these type of posts like threats of doom and gloom unless they vote how we want. In a sense they are right, but that doesn't change the fact that its all true either.

I had one somewhat related.

#? The past existence of polar bears is considered a mere theory of the scientific community, which is conspiring to promote its secular agenda. The polar bear, which no one in recent memory has ever seen according to the Department of Faith (All polar bears in zoos are frauds; they are bleached black bears.), purportedly lived on the mythical northern ice cap and is a part of the global warming theory which is really just a conspiracy against the bible. Scientists are seen as vain know-it-alls who hate Jesus and want people to live relativistic, amoral, hedonistic lives!

34. There was an OP yesterday about a possible Obama/Clinton ticket.
Almost every Obama supporter that weighed in said they would not vote for their own candidate if Clinton is on the ticket.

Now, that is the height of stupidity and I am hopeful that the real Obama supporters on this board will take the opportunity to confront this kind of BS whenever they see it.

39. Think about a unified ticket for a moment.
Think about the candidates styles and what my worry is about that is firstly that these two would not get along very well and end up burying themselves in disagreement. Its hard to see Hillary as the happy VP. In a sense theres some credence to the idea that she thinks she deserves to be president and probably wouldn't be happy with settling for the number 2 spot. The last thing is the most obvious, that being that Hillary on the ticket pretty much takes all the wind out of the Change argument. The idea that the combination of the Bush and Clinton years have led us to the state we're in today and we need to get away from that era in its entirety doesn't hold much weight when you have someone that takes partial credit for 8 of those years playing second fiddle. I'm sure that while a unity ticket would be the easiest way to attract Hillary supporters, it would damage his credibility with his own supporters.

That being said, you know who I'm voting for in November regardless.

41. I think about it alot and it has been and remains my first choice.
I think they complement each other very well. Their differences are in style, not substance, and this could be used very advantageously towards achieving the goals outlined in the Democratic platform.

There is no evidence that they do not get along. This has been a long and difficult campaign, but I suspect their personal relationship has not been damaged by that. They are politicians and attorneys. They know how to play this game and not take it personally.

If Hillary on the ticket would take to the wind out of the *Change* argument, then it is just what I believe it to be - political hot air. There is no substantial difference in their policies. Both would bring limited, but not dramatic, change.

I had and still have no quarrel with the first Clinton administration. As Hillary says: What part didn't you like - the peace or the prosperity? I also don't buy the "dynasty" argument. FDR served four consecutive terms. How bad was that?

Any Obama *supporter* who would not vote for him if he had Clinton in VP spot is not a true supporter and probably not a true Democrat.

That being said, I will vote for the Democratic ticket, period.
