To hear the Clinton campaign and Florida Democrats tell it, they were innocent bystanders to their state's GOP in deciding to move their election date up prior to their sanctioned slot in the calendar.

The reality is much different:

That's the Florida Senate Democratic minority leader Steven Geller overtly pretending to object to the new calendar, laughing about it the whole time.

Geller: The chair of the Democratic National Committee has of coursed threatened that if we move the primary to before the first Tuesday in February that they will sanction us at the Democratic National Convention. So the Democratic leader and the Democratic leader pro-tem are jointly making this motion, which we will duly show to them later, that we tried not to have the election before the first Tuesday in March.

They were mocking the DNC's calendar and its rules from the beginning. This wasn't a Democratic Party dragged along by a malicious GOP. Florida Democrats wanted their state earlier in the calendar.

Besides, the decision by the DNC about GLBT delegates is discriminatory, that's more fact than just opinion, and indefensible to boot. If other minority groups get proportional representation as delegates at the convention, then GLBT people should be treated with the same courtesy, to claim otherwise is to support discrimination. I'm still puzzled by how she defended the DNC in that thread, they seem to be on the wrong side of the issue, and I'm frankly surprised that she defended them at all. Granted the discrimination suit could go either way, but on the other issue, they are being discriminatory.

I think that's probably more an example of poor phrasing and conclusion jumping than out-and-out paranoia or craziness. I think what happened was that she got jumped on pretty quickly and probably phrased a few things in ways she otherwise might not have. Hell it's happened to me so I'm probably not the only one.

I don't know enough about the suit specifically so I won't talk about it until I learn more. But I'll of course agree that everyone deserves equal treatment - of course including gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and trans-gendered folks. I don't disagree with that at all. I just don't see what she's doing as "insensitive"; I think it's more of an example of her taking an unpopular position and defending herself in the face of almost universal disagreement (which is hard for anyone to do while remaining completely cool). Sometimes when it seems like the whole world is coming down on you it's hard to not feel like you're being painted as "the enemy," even though that's not the case.

I don't know, maybe we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. I'll read the rest of the thread later on, though.

179. This post made me think of something I have been pondering for a while.

You take people on two sides of an issue. This could really be any issue.

They will see things through VERY different lenses. It is as if we, as humans, have a very difficult time looking at things from a logical or non-baised view.

As I read GDP I continually see the "other side" praising a few posters for being such great and fair posters with such wonderful things to say. Yet to me, these same posters have been on ignore for a long time because I could no longer stand reading what I considered the most horrible and hate-filled posts in the forum.

Now at the same time, I see the "other side" accusing people I think of as good posters of posting horrible and hated-filled things.

Perhaps that means that the truth is somewhere in the middle. I don't know. I do know that it un-nerves me a bit as a Democrat.
