7. Dean's records
Edited on Sun Jan-04-04 04:20 PM by JNelson6563
Question from Lieberman. Dean says it's all been submitted to a judge and Dean will abide by judges decision.

Lieberman says not good enough. How can we take on Bush if you won't open records? Says his own are open to view. Like his slimiest moments are on the record. Insists Dean is ducking the question.

Dean said it is up to the judge.

Moderator asks them to take it outside. haha

He's putting it on "personal" things such as...Civil Unions letters. He has left it up to a judge.

22. Lieberman vs Dean on sealed records
Edited on Sun Jan-04-04 04:23 PM by Tinoire
Most troubling decision HD made in this campaign is to seal his records. This troubles me. People of VT and US have a right to know.
Have in my hand an MOU between you and sec of state.

Lieberman: Dean you have the power to open your records with one stroke of pen. Why will you not open your records?

Dean: More than half my records are open. This is a common thing to seal. There are letters from people in there when the civil-union bill was being passed.

AG of state of VT is going to court and judge is free to release whatever he wants

Lieberman: why are you forcing a judge to do what you know is right. Privacy is protected even if your records are opened. How can you take on Bush/Cheney who've run the most secretive campaign in history if you refuse to open your own records?

Whew... just went round and round on that one.

That was not a cool question but still a fair one because it just doesn't look right no matter what. Dean handled it well. Damn though- not Dean but the incident.

23. Kucinich question for Dean too
About health care plans. Dean says if someone's only issue is single-payer health care they should vote for DK or CMB.

Kucinich insists Dean must try to achieve it. Dean says Carter couldn't do it, Clinton couldn't do it and something must be accomplished. The we can talk reform.

Gephardt starts his question to Dean thanking him for getting everyone behind the Gephardt candidacy. haha

...with a string of mischaracterizations. Nice to see that the attacks on Dean do more to make his opponents look petty than make Dean look bad.

Now question to Dean regarding faith...

Is Dean the only one in this race? I know that he's the "frontrunner", but this is silly.

His answer is good.

Gephardt talking about how he's run for President more than anyone else...

67. Dean re opportunism in inserting religion into his campaign in the South
Handled that extremely well! That in North we don't talk openly about it but in South, both Blacks and Whites do so I have to adapt my style. Makes total sense!

87. He basically said
he needs to get more comfortable with expressing his faith in public. Problem is you can tell he has a ways to go. There was a Zogby poll on either MTP or This Week this morning. Said 67% of people the red states think our POTUS needs to have strong religious beliefs.

on foreign policy experience. He says he has more experience in foreign policy than Clinton and Reagan. He might be right, but no one will care. He wasted an answer.

George H.W. Bush was supposedly very experienced in that field and he wasn't partiuclarly good.

I'm electable if you vote for me.

...he says his being a veteran and he'll pick a southern running mate.

Kucinich says he can be elected if people vote for him.

BIG mistake attacking Dean in the "ask another candidate a
question" period.

All if did was give Dean more face time than anybody else. Props to Edwards, CMB and DK for being smart enough not to do this.

Edited on Sun Jan-04-04 04:44 PM by Tinoire
Proud: of having saved the Municipal Electric System (to the citizen's great and continuing advantage when you look at what deregulation did in my state!)

Mistake: firing chief of police live on 6PM news on Good Friday in the years since I've learned a lot of diplomacy and have since reconciled with that gentleman.

101. CMB...
Edited on Sun Jan-04-04 04:45 PM by w13rd0
...talking about RW distortion of her attending a memorial service. She would have gotten major props if she's mentioned Wellstone. Kerry now talking about how Cleland suffered for not having defended himself. Kerry's response was good. Now Kucinich. Saying he's learned some diplomacy. I enjoy this debate SO MUCH MORE than prior ones. Lieberman talking now. Early in my career in Ct. I was more focused on rights of criminals than rights of victims (gee, his mistake was being soft on crime, but now he's TOUGH). Dean, says one of his mistakes was mischaracterizing Edwards position.

I didn't catch that next q&a to Dean. Something about earned legalization.

ON EDIT: I got the apology wrong, it was to Edwards, not DK. I was assuming it was DK because of earlier.
