The meaning of my communication is the response that I get.
What I was thinking, or what I intended, or what I wanted another person to understand is information for me, but it is not the meaning of what I communicate. If I hit my finger with the hammer while trying to drive a nail it doesn't change how badly my finger hurts to say that I meant to hit the nail; the meaning of that hammer blow was whacking my finger and that's what I have to deal with.

Politicians succeed of fail on that rule. It doesn't matter what Senator Clinton meant to say or even what she honestly feels - all that matters is the response that she gets from having said it.

So far, I don't think what she communicated with those words is doing her a lot of good...
