Hey, all you pissed-off women. Vote for McCain.
That's the right thing to do.

Vote for repeal of Roe v Wade.
Vote for endless wars to send your babies off to.
Vote for the impoverishment of the bottom 99.9% of the population.
Vote for the destruction of public education. Hell, schoolin' ain't gonna do your kids no good nohow because there will be no jobs for them.
Vote for a guy who doesn't know what a mortgage is. You didn't really need that house anyway.
Vote for a guy who wants to Bomb-Bomb-Bomb-Iran, even though he's kinda confused on who runs the country.
Vote to deprive yourselves and your families of health care.
Vote for the guy who's drooling to turn the country over to corporate rule. (Oops--might be wrong on that one. Maybe he's just drooling.)
Vote for three more Supreme Court Justices to the right of Alito, Scalia and Roberts. That'll make sure the next two or three generations will have reason to remember how mad you are.

Yeah. Vote for McCain.

That'll show us evil, sexist bastards a thing or two.

21. I'm a pissed off white guy with a college education for Obama, but I do believe
that the Democrats WILL unite in the general election against mccain

The more people hear from mccain verses the Democratic nominee the more they will realize what is at stake:

The Supreme Court
HealthCare
Medicare
Social Security
Jobs
Environment
Education
Stem Cell Research
etc. etc. etc.

WE WILL UNITE

We'd best get into our bunkers and hide, 'cause we're in for a whuppin' of monumental proportions.

Seems a bunch of Hillry women (a brazillion or more, last I heard) are going to show up at the Convention and yell, "We want Hillary!" - at which point all of the delegates will immediately switch their votes.

I also hear-tell pots and pans will be involved, and lord knows there's no defense against that kind of heavy artillery.

Obama's onliest hope of keeping the nomination at that point will be for Oprah to show up, and tell all of the delegates that there's a ticket for a BRAND! NEW! CAR! under all their seats if they stick to their guns.

30. Why does my addressing it to women mean
I have to restrict my pointing out the consequences of their threatened actions to the ones that bear on "women's issues?" Even in my most curmudgeonly depths, I wouldn't contend that women are concerned exclusively with "women's issues." Is that clear, or are you having a density contest with depleted uranium?

34. Let me rephrase: "Hey, all you pissed-off women."
You can cover it with plutonium and uranium but it won't change the fact you are insinuating women, pissed off women, are too dense or miffed to understand the implications of this election without your gentle nudging.

Stick to chemistry.

40. Hell yes--that's good capitalist thinking.
The thing that keeps the sheep from getting rich is that they keep letting ethics and similar superstitions get in the way of making profits. Successful people like Cheney, Eric Knight, and the defense industry are unburdened with such nuisances. And anyway, why should employers give a shit if their people are loaded up on drugs--as long as it's the right drugs? Heroin cuts into productivity, but you can really get a lot out of a coke head before the burnout.

And don't refer me to that PR driven website of his. IF you have real statements and evidence that he has the pull to get it done, let me know. Barr has been working on the habeas corpus and related issues with the ACLU for a while now. McKinney has support from a lot of the 9/11 groups.

58. I think it is
worth noting that Barack Obama has spoken numerous times about the need to restore the Great Writ. Anyone who has followed his campaign should be aware of that. And as I've noted on several threads, it was President Clinton who worked with republicans to damage the protections provided by habeas corpus, which allowed Bush to take the second step. (A review of all of the president debates from both parties shows that Obama, unlike either McCain or Clinton, has spoken out about this issue.)

Obama is the best bet to appoint the highest quality of federal judges, including to the US Supreme Court. It is necessary for federal courts to place limits on the "imperial presidency" that Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., warned of in 1974. If citizens want to have access to information on any potentially controversial issue (9/11, the Plame scandal, etc), this is only possible with a federal judiciary that respects the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights.

Good OP and interesting thread. Thank you.

abortion had to go to Sweden to get them? I am. Of course, those were the wealthy women, often the wives and daughters of the same people who didn't want to legalize abortion in this country. The poor women resorted to the local barber, a knitting needle or the friendly lady down the block. Lots of them died.

Then you can march into oblivion with a proud sense of having accomplished something. YOU were one of the bold, the few, who, when we were on the brink of destruction, helped push us over the edge. The cockroaches, who will no doubt survive and inherit our leavings, will be in your debt forever.

I'm pissed off about a lot of things but Hillary Rodham-Clinton is not and has never been the answer to women's issues.

Vote for McSame? OMG, No Way! I live in the state he represents in the Senate. He has never spoken for me or any other woman who thinks about women's issues like I do. Or any other non-gender issue, such as the Iraq War, the economy, Social Security, etc.

If the question is to vote Hillary Clinton or John McSame, I'm afraid I must pass, but will still vote for my House Rep, and local issues.

66. LOL Jackpine that is priceless. :)
I wish I could say I will see you at the WI Dem Convention but unfortunately I am going to be on the other side of the state that weekend. Did Wineke even get a keynote speaker this year?

69. Where ya gonna be?
And what could be more fascinating than watching Wineke trying to navigate his enormous ego around a crowded room without letting it come in contact with the riffraff?

One of the funniest things I've seen recently was when he was trying to herd people around at the 7th CD convention last month & everybody ignored him.

70. I'm actually going to be in Prairie Du Chien that weekend
Wineke is pretty awful. Linda Honold's choices for keynote were always pretty bland but at least she had keynote speakers! Wineke is so inefficient he can't even do that.

If I were running the party/convention:
1. We'd have a national speaker as the keynote
2. The convention would go into Sunday afternoon where all the platform/resolution voting would be done (similar to how Saturday works now)
3. Friday and Saturday night would be open to the public in the area in which the convention is run.
4. Friday night would have a concert with some politically active bands as well as a political documentary showing either in the convention hall or at a local theatre that Convention pass holders would have free admission to.
5. Saturday night would be speeches/hospitality rooms.
6. Friday and Saturday afternoon while more local speakers are talking, run Camp Wellstone classes that can teach people how to organize and campaign.
7. Use the open to the public setting to sign up new volunteers and increase membership.

By stretching the convention out, making it an event not just an elongated local party meeting and opening it up more to the public we can increase our base (thus increasing funds through increased membership rolls) and open up our party to a whole core of younger voters who are looking for a reason to be interested/involved.

The current convention caters to long time party members that enjoy sitting through the party business of going over finances and platform resolutions. I say leave 11am-2pm Sunday for those people and do it the way we always have on Saturdays but make the other two days fun and full of activities that will motivate people to come to the convention and spend money.

Have fun at night with the concerts/movie on Friday and Hospitality Suites/Big Speakers on Saturday night and have instructional classes available during the day at the same time the more local speakers are going to give people an option to increase their capabilities for election seasons instead of heading out and doing something else and coming back when bigger name speakers are talking (I know people who have done this).

Of course if I ran things we'd also focus party attention on helping all candidates equally rather than only helping candidates that are sure wins like Wineke does.

71. Wow, I absolutely love that!
That leads to another idea--why not expand Bobfest into a weekend event? They could do the usual Saturday program, but add stuff on Friday night & maybe Sunday morning. Turn the whole thing into something like Rockfest.

You can check their website, but basically it starts at about 9am and runs til 4 or 5. It's on the fairgrounds site. There are speakers, usually of national reputation. RFK Jr, Greg Palast, Hightower, Kucinich, etc. There are a lot of organic/fair trade-type lunch stands, lots of people selling all manner of progressive books & paraphernalia in a couple of the exhibition buildings & under canvas shelters. Last year the Barr-barians even had a small presence. The whole thing is pretty much the creation of Ed Garvey (ran with Barb Lawton against Tommy about a decade ago).

Edited to say it wasn't the Barr-barians. It was the Paulites.

75. THEN GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
You ain't tied down or locked in the basement.

To compare intelletually honest choices between two candidates with ABUSE is fucking weak ass shit.

Edited on Wed May-21-08 01:30 PM by bain_sidhe
And I'm an Obama supporter too. But I'm a woman with a heart, and I feel the pain of Clinton supporters.

Most of them will come to terms with Clinton's loss in their own way, in their own time. You're just making it harder for that to happen. You're hurting the candidate you supposedly "support" and I DO support.

Thanks. Not.

80. Speaking as a white woman, I doubt there are many here who would vote for McCain.
I think it is kind of a non-issue, yesterday's vote in Kentucky notwithstanding.
