Hillary : "It's time to bring the troops home!"
Edited on Mon May-19-08 09:26 PM by kentuck
I heard her say those words to a friendly crowd in KY today and her supporters jumped to their feet in enthusiastic applause. I wondered where we would be today if she had said that at the beginning of the campaign rather than at the end? There is little doubt that it was the "anti-war" message of Barack Obama that gave him footing and victory in many of the early races. All the while, Hillary was being coy. She would never say that she made a mistake in voting for the war in Iraq. And it cost her.

Was it Bill or Mark Penn that was advising her? Or both? Not very good advice, in my opinion. More than likely, it cost her the election. Without that issue, would Obama have made it this far? I seriusly doubt it. But Hillary was a woman. She had to pretend to be a strong Commander-in-Chief, no matter if the war was a colossal blunder. Did she follow her heart or the political winds, as defined by her husband and her primary advisor?

As the crowd in Kentucky stood on their feet to applaud her words, you could almost glimpse a hint of remorse on her face. If she had only done this earlier...?

2. The problem is Sen. Clinton is a hawk. She voted for war because she wanted war.
But it's a loser at the polls.

3. Anybody ask why she didn't bother to actually read the IWR before she voted for it?
Or wasn't that important enough at the time?

6. Maybe if she hadn't changed her view on the war
as the political winds changed, and voted the facts instead of the bullshit her advisors were spewing, and hadn't helped confuse the media on Dem policy with her "stay the course" shit in 2004, and just been a different person altogether...

8. The same troops she betrayed nearly 6 years ago
:eyes: And the same troops she wants to send to obliterate Iran, based on her recent Iran vote. She is a calculating opportunist. Maybe she'd be a little more careful if it were her own children being sent to war.

9. She Has Been Saying That From the Start, or At Least Since January

Obama, on the other hand ...

The New York Times - Friday, November 2, 2007

Presidential candidate and US Senator Barack Obama who is perceived as an 'anti-war' candidate by some announced that he would not commit to a withdrawal, declared that he was comfortable sending US troops back into Iraq after a withdrawal started and lacked clarity on exactly what a withdrawal under a President Obama would mean.

MSNBC - April 4, 2008

A key adviser to Senator Obama’s campaign is recommending in a confidential paper that America keep between 60,000 and 80,000 troops in Iraq as of late 2010, a plan at odds with the public pledge of the Illinois senator to withdraw combat forces from Iraq within 16 months of taking office.”

12. Right now, she can use whatever words she likes...she and her words
are irrelevant. There is no advantage, and no consequence, to her saying "It's time to bring the troops home!"

15. Hillary has been saying that since the beginning of her campaign
Try listening to her every once in a while instead of demonizing her for petty shit.

16. Then there is the flip flopping
But I'm glad Clinton didn't lie on where she stood. Who here or anywhere doesn't want to see a candidate for what they really stand for?
