Obama-Webb? I'm in.
Senator Obama can continue to provide an eloquent voice delineating his vision for America, and Jim Webb can inoculate the ticket against the bullshit attacks on Democrats' patriotism and national security credentials that we all know will ensue as the election nears.

Webb is a good choice. I think Clark and Strickland are also on the short list.

2. The ultimate Good Cop - Bad Cop Combo!
I won't be broken hearted if someone else is nominated as VP, but right now this ticket tickles me!

20. I understand how you feel. And thank you so very much for being
not only a good democrat, but a GREAT democrat. With all the emotion of this primary season, I'm proud you're in the same party as me. I don't expect any Hillary supporter to be enthused about a ticket without Hillary - there's just been too much "stuff" over the past few months. I respect your passion for your candidate.

Thank you for not being one of those folks who say they'll stay home or vote for some other party. And thank you for letting us all know that, too. Since you can't invest money or time in a ticket without Hillary on it, I'll work harder to get the democrat elected so that you don't have to.

I have to say that I would have had a hard time making phone calls for Hillary had she been the nominee. Not because I don't like her but because of that IWR vote. That was the only reason I didn't support her from the beginning. So I fully understand and respect your position. I'm sure you have reasons not to be enthusiastic about Obama other than just the emotional mess that's been going on.

So if Hillary is not on the ticket, I've got your back.

9. It's really gotta be a white male. Read further and hear me out on this.
Now before anyone gets the wrong idea, just hear me out. Hillary, Sebelius, Napalitano, would all be good choices too, objectively. But the hard reality is that we have been losing too many people in the white male demographic in this party. That's just the truth. We need to get some back.
Having an African American (awesome candidate by the way)AND a woman is a lot for the electorate to have to "swallow" even in a "change" year. (Just being objective here guys, NOT biased.) That is a lot of "change" to deal with for many in the electorate. So, a white male is best and either a governor of a "purple" state (i.e. Strickland of Ohio which is a KEY purple state) or somoeone with foreign policy/military experience that can help with white males and white working class (like Strickland). Also, Clark and Strickland are staunch Hillary supporters which will also help to "appease" her supporters. Schweitzer is a great "outsider" white male Gov. VP pick with strong populist credentials and also offers a western balance. Stategically though, Strickland, Webb, and Clark are the top three in my view with Schweitzer and Kaine also strong considerations.

12. By your argument, it needs to be a white mail with an IQ of 85
Because Obama already does well with ALL well-educated voters, white and black, male and female. The only white voters he has trouble with are the older women and the less educated men.

Considering we have just had 8 years of a dumb white guy, I don't think that's a very good idea.

Hillary is definitely out because she is such a polarizing figure who would stir up an extra 5 million votes for McCain. But I wouldn't rule out the other two women you mentioned.

18. Webb, Clark, Schweitzer---I like all of them.
Mark Warner is going to add another Dem to the Senate form VA. They could find another one, I believe, if Obama went with Webb.

Clark is a great choice, as is Schweitzer. Tim Kaine is okay, but he is a little syrupy. It could work. Right now, I think Webb would be the best and most perfect balance.

10. I love Webb. He must remain in the Senate
That seat is EXTREMELY valuable to us. It was an extremely hard fight to pick that up. No way we put that one back at risk. Webb say as much himself in an interview on Friday. I think it was an NPR program -- Fresh Air or Diane Rehm.

So forget that idea. There are plenty of other great players that we could afford to have on the ticket without giving up a valuable seat.

15. No, it's actually more important to convert Virginia into electoral votes.
Obama has a legitimate shot at this, and Webb would likely seal it on the ticket. It would allow Obama to lose Florida and Ohio, two very real possibilities.

We may not be able to find another Democrat who can win Webb's Senate seat.

19. Webb, "I can show you two of my tattoos." To Russert on MTP. Webb has three.
Webb was very engaging--really intelligent, pragmatic, and with a sense of humor. He did reiterate that he's not interested in the vice-presidency, but he did not rule it out.

Webb pointed out that Republican party will pay in November if Bush vetoes this GI bill, S.22--co-sponsored by Senators Warner and Hagel and 55 others--and which Webb first introduced 1/4/07.
