Pat Buchanan: "I'm for Hllary"

http://thedailyvoice.com/voice/2008/05/buchanan-says-obama-would-not-000571.php

Pat Buchanan says Hillary Clinton is "one of us"
Keith Boykin

I was standing in the green room of MSNBC last night talking with conservative commentator Pat Buchanan about the West Virginia primary, when he made a startling revelation. "I'm for Hllary," he said.

I assumed it was a joke, but after hearing what he said on "Hardball with Chris Matthews" a few minutes later, I'm not so sure. When defending the racial sentiments expressed by whites in West Virginia, Buchanan indicated there was nothing wrong with white voters deciding to support Clinton because she is "one of us."

1. One of us......
... as in: one of us White people? One of us Repub shills? Either way - I wouldn't take that as much of compliment if I were Hillary.

30. "Rooting" and "Voting for" are 2 completely different things
He very specifically said that he would not be voting for either Obama or Hillary. By "us" he meant "white people."

Pat Buchanan loves the political theater. He's been excited for months now about all that's gone on in the primary races. He loves the sport of it, loves to see folks who have been knocked down get up again and keep on going. He can admire that and enjoy it (and the Dem candidates), but he will still remain true to his Republican roots. Don't expect anything different from him.

IDENTITY POLITICS is as old as the hills.

Pat has said some inane shit on race, but if you are gonna make accusations, at least be accurate about it.

21. The only identity politics centered on race is wrong, and encouraging this
is more wrong.....just because it is old, doesn't make it the right thing. That's like saying that murder has been around forever, so why not?

Justifying identity politics is exactly something that one would want to discourage. That's why, until Hillary felt otherwise, Democrats have encourage that folks vote their financial interest and not this value/culture shit.

Hillary Clinton has done much to take us back in time and has made racial divisions cool again. For that, I'll never forgive her.

42. of course, and what i mean is that they tend to vote for people that connect with them...
Edited on Thu May-15-08 03:07 PM by Texas Hill Country
and that is done in a variety of different ways.

And most often, in heavily african american districts, the city council members, state reps, mayors, us reps, etc... are usually african american.... much like along the border in texas, most of the city government officials, and US reps are hispanic, and so on and so forth... that happens because of identity politics. It is not racism, people vote for a representation of themselves or an idealized version of themselves... someone they identify with... a connection between voter and candidate.

this is a well documented, studied and understood phenomenon.

54. So, in the name of "identity politics," you're defending racism.
You know as well as I do that a lot of white working class voters are NOT "tending to vote working class" when they vote for Zellary. But because it's "identity politics," you think that's okay?

Oh, wait - of course you do. You're a Clinton supporter. If racism benefits your candidate, you'll defend it to the death.

This was the night before West Virginia, main page of the World Nut Daily,
goes on and explains that his type of racism is not racism, and Hillary's is
not racism either..... Think about it....... Right before the primary, a major
editorial.

24. He just means not "You People"

Ross Perot broke it down nicely in the 90s while talking to the NAACP. Pat Buchanan is just distilling that point a little further. Everybody but "you people" is "one of us."

I assume we'll eventually be provided with better distinctions to help clarify more complex racial differences -- for example, minorities who are "among us" but can sometimes be considered "those people."

If at this point you still think Hillary Clinton cares about her country or her party or her supporters, will the sinister words of Pat Buchanan finally get through to you?

If not, you're either uninformed, or you're irrational.

My money says she'll keep his endorsement. She'll take whatever her pathetic ego needs. She's a GOP shill, just like Lieberman.
