So let me get this straight....
When Edwards had the opportunity to endorse a candidate before there was a clear winner, he wouldn't...he didn't want to be involved. Now that it is a certainty that Obama is the nominee for our party, he is going to endorse him? I just lost a lot of respect for Edwards, to be honest. It didn't take any guts at all to make this endorsement...What a shame that he didn't do it earlier in the game.

1. A lot of people wait until there is a clear nominee before endorsing...
Happened a lot in 04.

35. We could ask the same question of Gore and Carter
I wish Edwards would have moved sooner. I think it is safe to say Clinton has been in very close contact with Edwards. I don't think it is a stretch to imagine that Edwards wanted to give Hillary a chance to end it on her own terms, and go out with a victory in WV. But her talk since WV is maniacal -- completely detached from reality. Edwards thought it was time to move on.

As Hillary evidently is not capable of ending this herself, I expect we will see both Gore and Carter step in next Tuesday and finish it.

This is really an ugly way to leave the stage, but she really hasn't left anybody any options.

36. If Edwards had moved sooner...
I think Obama would have been a shoe-in months ago. Both Obama and Hillary have wanted his support.

I'm a Hillary supporter and I think she's slowly working on an exit strategy even now. The rhetoric between both camps have toned down considerably. That tells me she is on her way out and looking for the right timing to make it happen without hurting Obama.

32. True that, and it's starting to piss me off.
Not that anyone here gives a ratzass if I'm pissed.
I liked Edwards.
He dropped out.
My next lukewarm choice was Obama.
My feelings are more than 'luke' now.
But the Hillary supporters are really starting to...IRRITATE me.

Jeezus people.
Are you Democrats, or what?

If you won't vote for whoever gets the nomination then you really don't belong here.

Go support Bob Barr or Ron Paul.
Or John ferking McCain.
But how about just haul-assing from DU.
OK?
:grr:

20. I do
But the same question could fairly be asked about Obama supporters and Clinton endorsers. I don't think you guys have a better track record. Just yesterday there was a thread slamming Stephanie Tubbs-Jones as a "neocon shill". That's just idiotic.

11. Actually, with Florida and Michigan still up in the air, there was alot more play in this...
...than it seemed. Clinton has been saying openly that she's hoping to go to the convention and use Florida and Michigan to win. I think Edwards (along with a hell of a lot of other people, including people in the Clinton camp) are realizing she really intends to do this and that it must NOT be allowed to happen.

13. Possibly he respects the voters more than you do.
Also, if he endorsed Obama (I think he was always going to do so) earlier - don't you think the Clinton camp would have cried foul? Hillary could have added another excuse to her list - Edwards caused me to lose.

No, Edwards did the right and honorable thing.

14. Aren't you the people...
...who have been DEMANDING that people wait until there was a clear winner before endorsing while the supers kept steadily streaming into the Obama column for weeks? Isn't the Hillary camp the one that's been trying to make that argument for quite some time now?

"Let it play out! Let the people vote! Wait until the outcome is clear!

...

Oh sure, endorse now that the outcome is obvious... cowards!"

Oh please.

16. His wife is a strong Hillary supporter
I think JE delayed because his wife is a big supporter of Hillary, and thus he didn't want to seem like he was squashing Clinton's chances. Now that it seems very likely that Obama will be the nominee, JE's endorsement can't be seen as overly influential. Not the usual move for a politician, but a strong move for someone who adores his wife. :)

I suppose he would make a good running mate for either candidate, and it would obviously not work out well if he endorsed the wrong candidate.

29. this is about political strategy
the Obama campaign already knew Hillary would win WVa. The timing of this announcement is purely political - meant to deflate the Hillary win. Politics is a team sport.
