Kerry is running a great campaign
Remember when Kerry chose Edwards for his running mate the freepers said he has no chance of winning a single southern state? Guess what...

He doesn't have to. Pure and simple. Kerry can win without a single southern state but Bush can't if he don't win all of them.

We are now seeing some close polls in TN, VA, NC and Arkansas. Bush tries not to look worried about them but he better think twice. He simply can't ignore them anymore. He has to spend time and money there defending his own turf.

Meanwhile Kerry and Edwards can go campaigning in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, Washington and Oregon.

For all the money Bush spent trying to destroy Kerry he has nothing to show. Absolutely nothing. Zero.

I am starting to think Rove didn't have a backup plan for this election. They counted on the huge ad buys (lies) during the spring to win the election for them This obviously didn't work and now they have to change the plan. But they don't have one.

I am feeling more and more optimistic about the 2004 election. In the beginning I thought Kerry would lose, then I thought he could win but not with much. I am now thinking he will win big. not only he will win all the states Gore carried, but he will also win at least 3 more from the following - Ohio, Florida, West Virginia, Virginia, New Hampshire, Nevada.

Your thoughts? Is Kerry running a good campaign?

1. I think he's running close
to the most perfect campaign I've ever seen.

He was brilliant in the primaries, he's great in the general. I know everybody here wants him to beat up on Bush non-stop starting three months ago, but that's a bad strategy, despite being potentially satisfying for the hard-core politicos.

I predict he'll win and he'll win big. I know he's a fighter and he's saving all his best stuff for the later rounds where it really counts.

8. One thing I've always heard about Kerry
is that he's a great "closer." This is evidenced by his 1996 race against William Weld, where he was trailing Weld until nearly the end of the race. It's also evidenced by his comeback in Iowa, which was a real surprise. The guy is good at surpassing everyone's expectations.

3. Edwards brought a lot of Southerners on board, imho
I am hearing more and more positive remarks about both Kerry and Edwards. The meme about Kerry being a Northeastern Liberal doesn't seem to mean as much as the photos of Kerry shooting the rifle ("He's for guns, that's all I need to know" is what one guy said), and Edward's status as millionare trial lawyer isn't as important as the fact he's the first in his family to go to college.

he doesn't push for too much gun control.

There are so many other important issues like healthcare, the enviornment, education, Iraq, and everything else.

It just doesn't play well outside of NYC, San Fran, and Chicago.

and I looked these up last month for fun....when there were many articles in the mainstream press with titles like, " Is Bush Unbeatable?" " Insurmountable odds for Democrats"

Kerry is doing great...as are the Democrats in general. I think we really did learn our lesson from 2000 and 2002.

Edit: for a laugh I went to pull up some of those articles..
Really a fun read.

Q: Who then - and what - could beat this formidable Mr. Bush?

He could beat himself by gross mismanagement of the peace in Iraq - coupled with a sudden, deep decline in the economy. I just don't see this happening.

6. Yeah, each day I like him more and more.
I would still like to see him go after Bush a little more, and I'd like to see him lighten up some more.

Other than that, I think he's done a fantastic job. Six months ago, I don't think I expected him to do such a good job.

7. Here's the deal.
Kerry's in a position where he has had enough money to contest states which everybody assumed were Bush's for the taking. Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, even my home state of Arkansas - I didn't hear anybody apart from diehard optimists saying that Kerry had a chance in those states.

But Kerry, because he clinched the nomination so early and received such an influx of money, was able to establish a presence in those states early-on. Picking Edwards definitely helped. Virginia and Arkansas were already close, but the choice of Edwards helped make NC and TN competitive as well. Bush now has to fight to keep states in his own back yard!

Bush's attempts at snatching the Gore states away from Kerry have not been as successful. Yes, some polls have shown him leading in states like MI, MN, WI, and PA, but these polls have generally been shown to be anomalous. You will also note that the talk about California being a swing state has almost completely stopped.

To sum up, Kerry is making inroads in the Bush 2000 states, while Bush is not doing nearly as well in the Gore 2000 states. So yes, I think Kerry's running a good campaign.
