Reporting for Duty
That was quite possibly the best opening line I could have imagined! It literally shocked me. If there was a better way to frame his speech, and his candidacy/presidency, Id like to hear it. I doubt anything could compare.

What a way to put things in perspective with one sentence!

4. Hey thanks.
The west wing reference was clever wasnt it :) I was surprised how good that speech was. I liked his message to bush too, just wish he could have thrown in a few shots at him but, I guess thats OUR job ;) Wouldnt have looked dignified coming from him.

5. I'm very happy with his approach...

Thoroughly positive and with great dignity. (But I agree, I too would have enjoyed a few good, solid hits at *... )

11. Well, for the moment, it's posted here:
http://www.freep.com/

Don't worry! That's the Detroit Free Press site, not some freeper thang. (the Free Press is too incompetant to have an agenda...believe me!)

10. Joe Trippi made an interesting observation...
He thought Kerry should've closed with that line.

And I kind of agree with him.

I think it would've brought the house down. They'd probably still be cheering in the Fleet Center.

13. Kerry's nod to Wes Clark
I believe it was Clark who used that line when he endorsed Kerry. Kerry actually took bits and pieces from other candidates. The Lincoln quote actually came from Edwards in one of the debates. The "all in the same boat" line was previously used by Carol Mosely Braun.

17. "Reporting for Duty" and "Send Me" - both have the advantage of
highlighting Kerry's service and nailing the slacker attitude exhibited by Bush - including the delayed response on 9-11. No one who has been paying attention will miss the contrast. Heh.
