Do the 7th inning analogies work anymore?
Presumably the number of points a sports team can gain is unlimited whereas there are a limited number of delegates up for grabs. This analogy doesn't make sense anymore does it.

1. Well that depends on whether all 9 innings count
Maybe only the big scoring innings count?

2. If the outfield and pitcher totally collapsed, or walked off the field and went home
For example if Obama got arrested for serial murder (please note the sarcasm)

3. The only baseball analogy that works for me today is......
it is bottom of the ninth, Hillary is behind with nobody on and 2 outs, she hits a high pop up and there's an all star waiting to catch it.

4. The 'race' metaphor is more apt than a 'game' metaphor.
Edited on Wed May-07-08 11:23 AM by TahitiNut
Think of it as a 53-lap race and Obama is *almost* a full lap ahead in the 47th lap. Hillary is looking over her shoulder at him and thinking (as her fans cheer) she can "win" ... and the subtext is that she's trying to spike him so he falls and can't get up.

The reason the mataphor works better is because there're limits to the speed a human (or race car) can attain. On *some* laps, Hillary has gained on him. On *most* laps, he distanced himself from her. The margin of delegates between Obama and Clinton is about the same as awarded by an average state contest - thus, it's like a full lap. It's not a 'team' sport/game since the crippling/injury to the principle can keep them from winning - while, in a team sport, other team members continue to play.

Yes, I'm a metaphor junkie.
