Jerry McNerney -- The Campaign is Catching Fire
Many of us worked to get Jerry written-in in the primary so that his name would appear on the ballot in the general election. It worked! And his campaign is catching fire:

Dear Friends,

THE SUMMER HEAT IS HERE AND OUR CAMPAIGN IS CATCHING FIRE. People are coming together and unifying to send a strong message with one loud voice. Vicki Cosgrove, Cindy Ware and Jim Ware hosted a fun-filled ice cream social last Sunday. Laramie Crocker was a special treat with his singing and music. A great big THANK YOU to everyone that helped and to everyone that came. We also had a warm neighborhood reception at the home of Charlotte Salomon in Pleasanton last Thursday. Thank you Charlotte for opening your home to us!

There are many EXCITING CHANGES to our website at, and we are sure you will like the new look. It will be updated regularly and we will be asking for your suggestions and ideas for the feature stories. Please let us know what you think.

If you want a change from the direction this country is headed, then RELIEF IS ON THE WAY FROM BOSTON. We have a STRONG TICKET with Kerry and Edwards at the head, Boxer standing strong against Jones, and McNerney (thats me) getting ready to expose Pombo for trashing the environment, approving assault weapons, opposing the rights of women, and taking money from the same oil and gas interests, such as Duke Energy, that were implicated during Californias energy crisis.

Voter registration in San Joaquin County has been quietly gaining ground and is now almost even between Democrats and Republicans. THIS MAKES OUR RACE VERY COMPETITIVE. We are looking to a fair and open contest that inspires voters to get out and support their candidates.

The success of our campaign depends on support from inspired people in the district and around the country. You can make a big difference by phoning the Dean Dozen,, Clarks Army, and other large on-line groups to encourage their members to visit our web site, . Governor Howard Dean told me personally that phone banking is the most effective tool for getting on these nationwide lists. Please forward this message to your family, friends, and associates. We need internet noise and heavy web site traffic.

We are going to take this fight to the front doors, radios, newspapers, televisions of the district to tell everyone how Pombos policies will pave over our district and create another polluted and congested sprawl just like Los Angeles County.

According to the Stockton Record on July 16th, Mr. Pombo raised nearly 70% of his money this last quarter from OUTSIDE THE STATE, including the same energy and logging interests that he has jurisdiction over as chairman of the House Committee on Resources. He also raised money from the NRA, health insurance companies, and pharmaceutical companies. In order to fight this we need GRASSROOTS MONEY from concerned citizens so we can print literature, send out mail, purchase campaign materials, rent campaign offices, and advertise. We can not rely solely on others; rather we ALL need to take active responsibility for our freedoms. So far more than 500 individuals have donated to our campaign, showing that we truly represent the people. Please go to the web site,, and donate generously. This is what it takes to change the direction of our country.

Thank you very much,

Jerry McNerney

1. He's terrific
Our local Clark group did a bunch of work for his write in campaign ballot. He came to one of our meetings and talked about himself and why he was running. He'll make a terrific Congressman.

Pombo has got to go.
