As we are promoting democracy in Iraq, I feel Kerry/Edwards should support an Iraqi referendum to let the Iraqi people decide if the U.S. should have a military presence in their country. As a professor of International Studies has pointed out, Bush's biggest mistake in Iraq (other than invading in the first place)is the failure to distinguish between Islamic fundamentalism and Iraqi nationalism. We can't wait for the security situation to "improve" if our military presence there is, in fact, making the situation worse. If we don't feel the Iraqi people have the sense to decide for themselves, even considering the possibility of civil war (which is happening now any way). Let them decide and let us abide by their decision! If you agree, let the Kerry-Edwards team know.
