consider this an official Obama site?
I read the post written by sparkly.

I agree with some of the sentiments of the post. This is a pro Obama web site and largely anti Hillary site as well, but not officially.

The officials at DU pretty much stay out of it and let the sentiment of democracy take it's course.

I'm a Hillary supporter and have never been told what I could or could not post by the officials.

If I post a pro Hillary article or an article that says something negative about Obama, I know what to expect.

The point is it's my choice to subject myself to abuse and to occasionally dish it out.

The voices here are free and the opinions unedited.

What more can you ask for?

5. This is a neutral forum for Dems and progressives
If you know several hundred HRC supporters, invite them to come post at DU--then perhaps you will be happier with what you read here. But please do not call DU an "Obama site". It isn't, and it's about much more than these primaries.

10. please read the post
I specifically did NOT call DU an official Obama site.

I just point out that a free democratically run DU is pro Obama by a vast majority.

I further said that that was not a bad deal.

17. I did
"This is a pro Obama web site". A deliberate distortion. A majority of the people here who choose to discuss the primaries are pro-Obama. The "site" is a neutral place for that discussion, as well as a hundred other topics. I see your post as a subtle form of disparagement, because you're refusing to characterize DU accurately.

22. how do you see the world
there is no distortion deliberate or other wise in my post

I specifically said "not Officially" when referring to DU

I also said that this becoming a pro Obama site was a product of free thinking and democracy

you should be proud of that

You're right in that there are no progressives running for president. My point is that progressives are a welcome element at DU. Your comment doesn't really have any bearing.

6. That's my perception bill. You pretty much get what you ask for around here and if
some poor benighted soul (more likely) or some freeping troll (less likely) attacks and abuses you, that CAN be defused by how you respond to it - not only defused but turned to you and your candidate's advantage

IF

that IS one's highest priority, which many times it isn't, because some folk are more concerned about dishing out punishment and revenge than they are interested in DISCOVERING truth through collaboration. God forgive them and keep the rest of us on the path.

7. My guess is that since Obama is ahead largely because
he has more supporters (a good indicator of WHY someone is "ahead"), I have no reason to doubt that this greater level of support would also be reflected here on DU. I don't believe DU is an "official Obama site", it is just reflective of the actual national support levels for each of the candidates.

41. Obama's demographics tend to be more "Internet Savvy"......
Edited on Mon May-05-08 10:01 PM by scheming daemons
Educated people make more money and tend to utilize the internet more than uneducated people.

Hillary's base is LARGELY made up of less educated and poor whites. These tend to be TV-watchers more than Internet users.

DU is a site that one would expect greater Obama support than the general public as a whole.

People who think that getting $30 back over the next three months is a good idea tend to not be able to afford high-speed internet service or a good computer.

9. As An Obama Supporter I Have No Problem With Pro-Hillary Threads Or Issue Driven Arguments...
For example, Bigtree posts campaign stop threads on both candidates and I often REC the Hillary threads. However many Hillary supporters post pure bullshit threads using outlier polls or citing RW media with anti-Obama articles that I take exception to. Also, it appears many of the "disrupters" who come here argue on Hillary's behalf.

14. You've answered your own question
If, as you say, "the officials at DU pretty much stay out of it and let the sentiment of democracy take it's course", then it can't be considered an official Obama site, merely a site where the majority of members prefer Obama. Actually, it's amazing that the admins are as neutral as they are, given the origins of this site as a forum for the progressive wing of the party who were outraged at the theft of the 2000 election and the unwillingness of centrist Dems (like the Clintons) to fight against it. Perhaps they feel unable to take sides in what has been reduced to a battle between the most right-wing and the second most right-wing Democratic presidential candidate.
