Maybe there's a better choice than *ANY* of the three current contenders?
I didn't write this LTTE and neither did Mr. Tesha, but it
pretty-well sums up our feelings about our choices in
Election 2000..

He has someone else in mind for president

The presidential race leaves a lot to be desired, in this writer's mind.

Aren't there any other qualified, experienced, clear-headed, good men out
there who have the will to become this nation's chief executive, who have
experience with foreign policy, who are against the war in Iraq that this
present, bumbling, stumbling administration got us into by telling barefaced
lies to the American people?

On one hand, the Democrats feature a woman whose only political experience
was being married to a former president. Her very short tenure in the Senate
and the many votes she's made make her appear weak, not presidential timber
at all.

And now we come to Barack Obama, a young senator with absolutely no
foreign policy experience, in fact, no experience whatsoever that would
qualify him in any way, shape or form as the leader of this nation.

<snip>

That brings us to geriatric John McCain. He has a little experience having
served this country in many ways, but I do not see a man his age being
voted into the highest office in this land. He may, of course, be another
Ronald Reagan and nap his way through the presidency.

But his age stands as the main reason why he should not have the weight
of the highest office in the land dropped on his shoulders. He also is not
a proven – keyword here "proven" – leader.

<snip>

I can think of only one man who has the experience, having served as
vice president and foreign policy liaison, and has met and dealt with
world leaders.

<snip>

This man is Al Gore.

1. You're not going to see it.
Good guy. But one must fight for the presidency rather than sit back and hope that it happens. Same reason that I won't vote for Kerry again; he should have fought those 'Swift Boat' people a lot more than he did.

2. Too late. We still have a little bit of a democracy at times and most
of us already voted in the primary.

4. Al Gore is a wonderful man.
But he chose NOT to run for president, and he has said he would accept no office in the next administration. Why people continue to act as if he is going to swoop down and take the nomination is beyond me. Same with John Edwards, after choosing to leave the primaries.

5. There have been a few threads pushing the idea of Gore running again
The sad fact is it's not going to happen. Gore is happy doing what he is doing and has pretty much reinvented himself after what happened in 2000.

6. The point of the letter, of course, is that people (presumably) outside of DU...
aren't happy with the choices that have been forced upon us
for this election cycle. And that bodes ill for the General
Election.

12. Based on my conversations with folks, I think that "very small minority" is a lot bigger...
than you think, both here and in the real world.

9. There's no "maybe" about it.
Gore would be a far better choice.

So would most of the rest of this year's early primary pack, as well.

13. Stupidist Idea ever
Edited on Sun May-04-08 07:21 PM by Jake3463
Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama will be the nominee. Taking the nomination away from both of them and giving it to a white southern male is probably the surest way we could lose in November. Pisses off women and African American voters at the same time. And no I don't think they would "get over it" for the good of the country.

No disrespect for VP Gore but if he wanted to run for President he should have been in Iowa in January.

14. See, that's the problem: We already have two different ways to lose in November.
We can surely lose with Clinton.

We can likely lose with Obama.

Or we could try something different...
