This protracted primary is sucking the life out of me.
I just feel this constant, grinding awfulness about it, as it makes its leisurely way through June. I don't think I'm going to get through this. I'm just glad I already voted, three months ago, on Super Tuesday. Christ, that seems like a million years ago.

Logic would dictate that the smartest thing for me to do is stay as far away from DU as possible, BUT I CAN'T STOP. I think I would regain my mental health within a few days if I just stopped coming here, but I can't do it. I check in here several times day, with a mixture of dread, excitement and anticipatory anxiety. It's like being addicted to a drug that gets you very very high for a short amount of time, but whose side effect is crippling panic attacks.

I'm just saying.

2. Do you still remember when Hillary was totally inevitable? 20 pts - 30pts?
We've gone a long way now. Don't weaken now. The end is sweet, and and approaching at a speed of one hour per hour!

6. I know.
I have no idea why. It's not like I have any fun when I come here.

Maybe it's like those guy who go to very expensive prostitutes solely to get the shit beaten out of them for an hour?

7. Instead of coming here, go to the Obama web site and do some phone calling.
Do something you have control over.

It will make you feel a lot better.

9. Don't waste my time with helpful, constructive suggestions!
I came here to complain, and complain only! Don't start making me feel like this is all within my control or something.

10. When this election is over, no campaigning should be allowed until
3 months before the next caucususes and primaries begin. We don't need candidates moving to Iowa and camping out between elections. This nation needs some down time between elections to actually get some work done.

11. I feel your pain.
This primary has opened my eyes to how unintelligent the US population is. I can't believe how simple minded the majority or our county is. That is what is getting to me. Trapped in a country of fools guided by politicians with no ethics whatsoever. Mix the religion with it and we are a lost and hopeless place. I have tried to keep up the good fight. I have worked for my candidate but this has gone too far. I think that we will never have change in America and that thinking souls are doomed.

12. Me too. I had a mini-meltdown on DU yesterday, I want to stay away, but I can't.
It's sucking the life out of me too. I'm drained. I want it to end.

And I just want a nominee after next Tuesday.

If Hillary loses NC, I'm gonna join the Obama team. Maybe I should make a post out of it.

If she wins, on to June I guess.

13. That keeps happening to me.
I'll read something here that completely disgusts me, or I'll have some other similarly negative experience here, and I'll say "Fuck this shit! I'm getting back to work." So I'll work for ten to thirty minutes, and then I'm back here again. I don't get it at all.

14. I go to sleep at night and say I won't come back (out of anger OR embarassment)
anger at others...

embarassment when I go overboard.

But I still come back.

I'm gonna throw a hissy-fit everyday if we don't have a Dem President in 2009.

I see a constant torrent of lies, smears and dirty tricks, and I am absolutely desperate for this thing to end.

But it doesn't. It drags on and on and on.

And the slime just gets worse and worse and worse.

And now I feel like a sucker for that damned Kantor thing. God fuck me for being gullible, and God fuck Karl Rove and Hillary Clinton and their slimeballs for pulling this shit.

It is driving me fucking mad.

But here's the worst thing.

The whole process is designed to do that.

Rove's tricks are designed to disgust us, as are Hillary's smears.

Why?

Because they want us to say "Screw you, I'm taking my ball and I'm going home." If the slimers are the only ones left on the field, they win by default. That's exactly what they're trying to do.

So I'm staying in, even though I'm pretty sure I'll come out of this season still defeated, but with an ulcer, regular migraines, grey hair and enough mental issues to land me in the psych ward.

Politics is God's way of telling us He hates us and wants us to suffer.

16. I fell for the Kantor thing too.
This thread is partially a response to that. It's not just a question of feeling embarrassed for falling for it, I feel like a chump for letting this whole primary affect me as much as it has. Maybe if I were less demoralized I wouldn't have been so quick to jump on it. I don't know.

I'm 38 years old, I'm a husband and a father, and I have a lot of good things going on in my life right now. There is no good reason for me to let this shit affect me as much as I do. Life is too goddamn short.

19. That's what they want.
That's what Bush and Cheney want, that's what the GOP wants, that's what Rove, and yes, Clinton wants (though I'm sure the Clinton backers will disagree with that last part.)

They want us to be driven out. They want us to be disgusted and storm off the field. Like I said, that's how they win by default.

Let me put it a different way. We've been mugged. What they are doing is an assualt. An assault on our sanity, an assualt on our ability to cope, an assault on our very ability to participate in our own government. In other, cruder dictatorships, they assault with rifles and truncheons. Here, they assault us, in the same way, but instead of attacking our physical bodies, they try to damage our emotional health.
