How did Clinton do well with younger voters in '92?
I was watching the War Room (documentary on the '92 campaign) and it's great. At one point, they were discussing how the youth vote was very important.

I started watching it late so I never caught whether there was a certain strategy behind this in any way. Was it his appearance on Arsenio with the sax? His joking about not inhaling the pot? Or simply his charm and charisma?

Kerry has the lead with younger voters, but I'm sure he could do more to energize the youth vote.

2. He did phenomenally......MTV helped with this as well...
..back when they actually did things that somewhat resembled risk taking. Clinton's performances in MTV interviews and with younger voters compared with Bush's out of touch and testy appearance on and with the same were in my opinion a major tipping point. Keep in mind that it was also the first time there was a president who was a rock fan and expressed some knowledge of youth culture. C'mon....REM playing an innagural party...in 1992 that was positively revolutionary.

4. I felt Democrats were generally nicer people then...

I still remember being encouraged to work on a Congressional campaign for a local Democrat in 1992, and meeting Senator Wyche Fowler at a local forum. Each of these experiences got me interested in politics.

Now...if I even try to volunteer on a campaign, I would be told to get out of the fucking way! Last time I went to meet a Democratic state Senator at a forum he switched parties...

This leaves a somewhat bitter taste in my mouth as I grow older, and I know countless loyal Democrats who feel the same. Volunteers are treated like trash in this party, but at least employees are paid to be screamed at! :hangover:

you could say that I've learned my lesson the hard way ;)
