LOL Checkmate! Check-In Obama Supporters !
Obama is the MAN! I leave for a while and come back to hear that Obama has taken this race by the bullhorns and steered it back on the track! BRILLIANT, I must say. Simply B-R-I-L-L-I-A-N-T.

He had no choice. Sorry, Rev.

2. I'm a little disappointed in Obama
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 07:23 PM by Cali_Democrat
Wright is a good man. America just isn't ready for someone to speak the truth.

Edit to add I will continue to donate to Obama and support him 100%. I'm fully behind his candidacy. You can't always agree with a politician. If you do then you need your head examined.

But this race is too important for one man. Obama speaks the truth too, and he does so with such elegance, grace, and brilliance.

8. Wright stabbed Obama in the back
After Obama risked his political career to defend him last month. Obama's not the one you should be disappointed with. I defended Wright for a while too, but as Obama said, Wright's appearance at the ational Press Club caricatured himself, and if he cared at all about Obama he would not have done it.

I don't think he stabbed Obama in the back at all. He called Obama a politician. Of course Obama is a politician. They're all politicians and I think we shouldn't forget that.

I guess that's why he said that Obama was simply posturing politically in his race speech in Philly and why he said that Obama was just another politician?

20. This is where I had to part with Wright.
For him to actually lash out at Obama in PUBLIC on an national platform was the end of it. He DID caricature himself. He was like a mad man on stage. He did no one any favors except himself. That was wrong. In addition to that, I had a problem with something he said in his speech that let me know he was not in his right mind yesterday. But I haven't totally given up on Rev. He speaks the truth for the most part, but he did wrong yesterday.

Obama had to do what he had to do. And if this was a plan, it is brilliant. But he genuinely looked hurt and he put a lot on the line with this man, so I don't totally buy into the whole "planned" aspect.

The major problem is that media was doing this Obama = Wright play, and Obama had no other option except for what he did today. I wish we lived in a country where he didn't have to do that, but it's just where we are at the moment thanks to the media.

It's impossible for a politician to speak the truth about America without being vilified by thr MSM and GOP slime machine.

I'm not totally disappointed with Obama, just a little. I was hoping he could explain where Wright was coming from a little more.

He had no choice though. Wright is political poison and he has to distance himself from him. It's sad and unfortunate.

anymore. I have no doubts that Obama will prevail, absolutely none. So when I do check in here and see yet another 10,000 hand-wringing Wright threads, the "Obama is Dead" threads and "Rise Hillary Rise" threads, I have no doubt also that the next day I will check in or turn on the teevee for a few moments and see that Barack Obama has once again hit a grand slam.

The man has not a disingenuous bone in his body. He is a good man, a sincere man. There IS something to be said for that.. and that is something Hillary Clinton and all her lying minions do not have. They have no integrity, no honesty, no sincerity. And karma, as they say, is a bitch.

He is the next great leader of the free world. It is only a matter of time.

26. The funny thing is that alot of talking heads were saying
that this is exactly what he had to do, but now that he did, they are reacting in one of three ways:
1. This was a stroke of political genius, and the whole thing was a non-issue anyway (of course forgetting that they have been
the biggest offenders at making it an issue) ex: tweety
2. He did what he had to do and did it well, BUT why did he wait so long (because all decisions on personal matters should be
made in one 24 hour news cycle) ex: Mrs. Greenspan
3. "Some are saying that this is a purely cynical political move" ex: the whole fucking FOX news line-up

I think he did a hard thing in a very dignified way, I don't doubt that he disagrees with and does find many of Rev. Wrights comments offensive, hell, even where I agreed with Rev. Wright in his NAACP speech, his presser the next day was although truthful (ftmp) and entertaining, it was slightly surreal and sometimes went past bombastic and into offensive....

but I'm not a good one to preach about this on either side, I still belong to the Catholic Church even though I am now an agnostic and against nearly everything they stand for on women's issues and gay rights. It's more about the sense memories of being in Church and the long family tradition and I don't even particularly like my priest.

34. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE underestimates his brilliance.
This whole thing was a trap. I'm sure of it. He let the media and Hillary and all the rabid Hillary supporters work themselves up into an absolute FRENZY. I think he even resurrected a few long TS'd Hillbots. He let them all gloat and gossip for days. When it reached it's peak, which was absolutely PALPABLE, he calmly got up and slammed the door on this scandal.

This Wright thing is over, folks. Hillary tries to sling mud on this one and she will look absolutely devilish.

The particularly brilliant part is this: The only bad publicity is NO publicity. This Wright bullshit has been dominating the past 3 days. Wright... Obama... Wright... Obama. Hillary was an afterthought. Considering she has NO money, the media is really the only way to keep the public's attention. TV Commercials are expensive! For the past three days people haven't been thinking not about HER at all. They've been thinking about OBAMA. People had heard all these great things about him, but this Wright guy bothers them. They've just THOUGHT about Obama for 2 days straight. Today he answered their doubts and made everyone feel a little better. He's shut the door on it, expressed emotion, connected. It was, in fact, his New Hampshire moment.

Now what comes next?

The 60+ Superdelegates waiting in the wings - waiting to announce their support of Barack. He let 2-3 come out today. I anticipate it ramping up considerably through Tuesday. Everyday a new announcement. Multiple announcements a day. Staggered. Dominating the news cycle. Hillary won't have a story good enough to steal the headlines.

I believe this is the end.

Got Hope?

This is all you got, huh? Barack Obama just shattered your dreams today and it's difficult to grasp.

You're wondering, desperately wondering, how in the hell Obama is able to do it. How is he able to just take a bad situation and totally turn it on its head? How is he beating Hillary, whom we love so much and is soooooooo perfect? Why does everyone like him and not heeerrrr? Why can't she get a break?

Well, here it is.

Obama is the one who is supposed to take office this time. What is meant to be will be. His entire life has led him to this defining moment in our history. Everything this country has endured has led to this moment...where this one, special, transformational leader will take the highest seat in government and lead this country to be what it is truly meant to be. Nothing, and I do mean nothing, can or will stop that. You can't get your head wrapped around that? I would suggest that you open your eyes to what is happening right around you.

47. here's my personal take..
I heard snippets of the Moyer interview. Not any problem with me. Heard the Sunday evening speech, enjoyed it.Accents and music differences. Then, that press stuff yesterday morning...Even though personally 'I' had no big problems with what he said, I cringed knowing that loads of people would.

I know how diverse we ALL can be in our opinions. I knew that independent/undecided voters of any race or religion would perhaps see things in a different light than Wright. And I did feel bummed for the young lady in the position of asking questions.

It was unprofessional and divisive as hell. He does have some great points. But his delivery sucked.

Obama did and is doing JUST FINE. I just hope this stupid shit is behind him at least in some sense, and the issues can be talked about..at least for a freakin' little bit. Until the NEXT media attack, who instigated the whole stupid farce in the first place.

48. IDEA
Barack did a good job distancing himself from the Wright issue but another thorn to expose itself is Hillary touting the tax forgiveness on gas scheme for the summer. It it a worthless piece of crap but Obama is between a rock and a hard place on how to counter it. This issue changes minds. If anyone has access to the Obama camp I have a suggestion on how to counter this. Suggest that the gas tax be earmarked for "computer syncronization" of traffic signals throughout the US. This is a real way to save fuel in the near term and long term without the immediate need to buy new vehicles etc. In reality it does more than cut taxes for a few months and it is a permanent solution to lower our usage.Another way to save fuel is the construction of " roundabouts' which eliminate the 4 way stops. This is best accomplished with new road construction but these are ideas that Obama can use to counter the old political solutions of a short term fix. There are other ideas I'm sure but if anyone has connections to the Obama campaign I really think this would work before next Tuesday.

51. Those are ideas.
I think this whole gas tax thing is stupid. It won't save much money, and besides, Bush will never sign it. It won't even come into effect by the summer, so this whole thing is useless.

I think Obama should just tell people the truth. This is political grandstanding at its best. These SAME people who have been touting this false plan have been the biggest supporters of these corporations throughout the YEARS. They've been in Washington ALL OF THESE YEARS and still hasn't come up with a REAL plan to curb our dependence on foreign oil or to even invest in clean energy. He needs to just tell them that this plan they're talking about wouldn't even come into effect by the summer and they are basically telling lies to score political points. Then he needs to lay out HIS PLAN, the real plan, for energy. He needs to talk about his overall plan for the economy. People just need to sacrifice a MINUTE while we work to get Obama in.
