TURN OFF the Television! Especially if you are watching CABLE News!
Edited on Mon Apr-28-08 05:05 PM by FrenchieCat
Otherwise you will lose your sanity. Ask Hillary supporters, they will tell you about this.

Write to the shows instead to express your displeasure, BUT do not watch them (although please watch normal programs like KO, C-Span and Daily Show, etc..... and your local news and listen to progressive radio broacasts like Stephanie Miller, Ed Schulz, Randi Rhodes, Mike Malloy, etc.... via radio or the net) -

The Best Network News to watch if you must is CBS and Jim Leher.

CNN

you can write to every single "personality" at CNN via this link (look at the bottom)-

for more names go here http://www.congress.org/congressorg/dbq/media/ and type in the last name under individual search, and you can actual send them your letter from the site, 5 personalities at a time.

Write to them once a day. Don't be mean, just ask them if they have stopped Pastorbaiting yet, cause that is when you "might" resume watching. Write letters to each personality that you care for the least. then you can copy and paste so that they all get the message, if you dislike them all equally.

If someone here blogs over at the Obama site, please pass this information on.

If you are extra, extra pissed off and subscribe to either Newsweek (owned by WAPO shareholders and partnered with MSNBC/NBC/General Electrict) or Times Magazine (Owned by Time-Warner who owns CNN partnered with ABC/Disney), call them and cancel your subscription.

What you should know about Cable News:

Software Monitoring:
There are certain software applications being developed to monitor cable TV operators with full passive and permissive viewer measurement functionality to monitor TV channel ratings. The system tracks every time the channel is changed and records it accordingly. It allows what was being viewed at the time and which channel the viewer changed to. This information allows operators, broadcasters and advertising media to monitor audience TV usage habits and will provide invaluable rating and viewing information. The system also has additional information captured includes interactive application-specific events, viewer information events, diagnostic events and even configuration update events.

The average audience of the three main cable news channels was declining.
The drops at Fox News were the largest of all and marked the first time the cable news leader had begun to bleed viewers.
But there were signs that the cumulative audience, or the number of different people in the course of a month who view cable news, was still growing. With average audience in decline, that would mean more people visited cable news occasionally but didn’t stay as long.
The growth in MSNBC and some individual programs on CNN Headline News seem to be associated with the rise of even sharper opinions in prime time, and the declines at Fox News raise questions about whether its longtime evening lineup is losing some of its appeal.
Relative to each other, the three cable news channels performed according to type. Fox News remained well ahead of the competition again. While CNN managed to attract the largest share of unique viewers and did better during big events, Fox News dominated in the number of eyeballs watching at any given moment. MSNBC, meanwhile, stayed in third place, though with new managers at the helm there was some improvement in its performance, compared to previous years.

But the audience data suggest something more. The audiences for prime-time news and opinion programming dropped even more than daytime, a sign that it’s not just news on demand that is losing its appeal. Some prime-time opinion and personality programming on CNN and even more on Fox News may be losing sway.

7. I call it Media Anger management.....
It works.

I will watch CNN Live for Obama rallies on the Web....

I went through the 2004 elections, and I know that watching cable media news is not the best way to disagree with them. They have their own agenda, and getting mad at them doesn't work, unless one does more than simply watch. They want you to give up, and that is why watching them is harmful.

If enough people do it, then it can have meaning.

They only get about 500,000 viewers per day, approx....especially MSNBC (KO Gets the top Viewership)

So if even 100,000 suddenly stop watching, that's how to win that war and carry forth a message.
There are more than enough Obama supporters hanging on the web to get this done.

You can also contact Move-on.org, media matters and the DNC and tell them that you want them to look into what the Cable Triplets are doing in reference to news reporting on Democrats. They may not be able to do anything about it, but it may let them realize that there are many Democrats who do not trust the media. They would want to hear about that.

At this link, you can contact your congresscritters: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/directory/congdir.tt

Check the sources at www.hillaryis44.org and you'll see the pharma spam
links.

Might as well close up security for it - it has happened a few weeks ago
with the 4-H club that I also reported.

It's been "hacked" a lot - I've seen three different pharma spam links in the past few weeks. It made me think that website owner is trying to earn money on the side when he's still being caught a lot. A LOT.

I'm not impressed with your friend, the owner.

9. I just don't watch
at least not very much. I remember in the 90s when the Heaven's Gate thing happened and the nonstop coverage that followed. When the story started to fade, they picked up a story about solar flares and reported it as if the world was about to end. Watching too much cable news will depress you, whether it is primary/election season or not. To run news 24 hours a day and to keep people's attention they have to distort things to keep people's adrenaline/anxiety up. Turn it off.

14. Question 1:
Why is the question always asked how can Obama win over blue-collar white voters, but the question is never asked how Hillary can win over blue-collar black voters, or how she can win over affluent and independent voters?

Why is that question never asked by the punkdits! Why must it always be about the "white" vote and Obama winning it over, and never vice versa. The media pushes this black/white thing to the hilt. They never mention other minorities or if they do, it's the Hispanic vote and that is in quick passing.

I usually have the remote headphones attached to me as a semi-permanent part of my anatomy so that I can listen and not watch and go about everything else freely in my day that I have to do. Not today. As much as I was glued to the Wright speech last night, I was under no illusion that the RW noise machine wouldn't be at Defcon-5 first thing this morning-- and would only build as the day grew.

I heard what I directly heard and saw what I directly saw last night. I judged for myself. It was a great hour for this country and I don't need all the hungover fascist news corps hoping to try to tell me I should "see" it any differently this morning.

I gave up watching the overpaid, out of touch, elitist, know-nothing "experts" shortly after Obama gave his speech on race.

I had such high hopes for m$nbc when Keith's ratings took off. I really hoped they'd see there was a vast, untapped audience out here, longing for an unbiased source for news. Instead they lured us in with Keith only to spoon feed us more of the same shit offered on the other networks. :puke:

I'm angered and disgusted by the state of "news" outlets in America. We really, really need to overthrow the corporate media whores.

will they think we are tuning in and out,or, out and in? I suppose if you left it on the station it would be tuning in, but if you didn't leave it on the station it would be tuning out, but then the flipping itself would mean they are not holding an audience. Nevertheless I choose not to even tune in. And this after I just wrote to CNN and MSNBC.

If he didn't give the news media something to report on, as he's out promoting his book, then the man who refers to him as a "father figure" might have had a chance to win the Democratic nomination, and maybe even the presidency. But I think it's too late now. The genie is out and he's liking all the attention.

52. The whole "vetting process" thing is a meme
It's a meme used to justify the RW Corporate media crap and the actions of a vicious, slimey, deperate traitor to the Dem party. When does McDeath get vetted? HRC baldface lied to the people on numerous occassions and that only got a couple of days of coverage. Obama knew a couple of "questionable figures" and that's all the media can talk about...

They're trying to get McDeath elected and you know it.

Vetting. Pfah!

54. It's not a meme.. It's "Trial by Fire"! If you survive it you win..
If not, you're cast by the wayside! It's entirely up to the candidate; not the accusers.

47. I would like to add NPR to the list of good sources.
I have been listening to it since I got up this morning and there has been virtually nothing about all this garbage. They just don't play that game.

I take offense at those who are gleefully jumping up and down as they hit Obama supporters with this media circus. This is a sad thing and I don't understand how anyone can celebrate it.

I feel the same when Obama supporters celebrate any media feeding frenzy that hurts Clinton. We are being played and we need to change the rules.

I would have to email them every single day. Now I just read about their latest offense, and email. It's like cutting out the middle man that fucks with my brain.

56. The cable "news" channels have been programmed off my TV for years
that way, I don't even stumble on them by accident while surfing.

And you're right, my sanity improved- along with my blood pressure.

The only thing one is likely to get from watching this sort of programming is misinformed (those who think the know the facts and are therefore immune from the framing, imaging and use of language would do well to consult psychological studies on the subject).

Have not read the post but agree with your header completely.

..."and leave it off"...would be the only thing I would add.

This Wright stuff is irrelevant, unfair and a complete distortion.
(And I still support Hillary.)

63. I don't think all the letters in the world will do any good.
The corporate media has an agenda to serve the interests of the have-mores.

Cable "news" is nothing but the propaganda arm of giant profiteering mother corporations.

Complaining to them is like complaining to Joseph Goebbels about all the anti-Jewish propaganda.

I think letters to Congress might be more productive, but that's not saying much.

We need to reverse the consolidation of the media.

71. You're not alone...
Elizabeth Edwards wants journalists to do their jobs. As she writes in the Week in Review section of The New York Times:

"If voters want a vibrant, vigorous press, apparently we will have to demand it. Not by screaming out our windows as in the movie "Network" but by talking calmly, repeatedly, constantly in the ears of those in whom we have entrusted this enormous responsibility. Do your job, so we can -- as voters -- do ours."

'The news about newspapers just keeps getting worse. http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003795106 Contemporary journalism's inability to cover politics seriously is one small reason, I believe, for the decline. The focus on trivia slops over into other important civic coverage as well. Correcting this situation will not lead to a rebound in circulation or viewers (although turning off cable news is a good idea for protecting one's ability to think). Taking journalism's primary purpose seriously--especially regarding politics--would at least give news organizations something on which to hang the business of news (in any medium). Look at the circulation decline. Fluff ain't getting the job done.' --Andrew R. Cline, Ph.D.

73. Cable News is dead to me. - No really
Ever since they did their best to beat the drum for the Iraq war. I, for the most, part have never looked back. I also think they did very little to right the wrong done by the 2000 and 2004 elections.
