This speech is measured, erudite, historical - and informative. 360 degrees from the wild-eye black/white right/left brain bullshit he was talking about last night. Rev. Wright may be a fascinating study in the schizophrenia many blacks feel - speaking one way to a black audience, and another way to the larger, whiter culture.

Why should the voice be so profoundly different? This is just one point to start that "conversation" on race.

The Rev. Wright I'm hearing now is very different from the one I heard last night, and in part of the Bill Moyers' interview.

EDITED TO ADD - NOT- TO TITLE. Rev. Wright started well, but ended up with his usual racist, self-serving bullshit

1. He has thrown in a red herring and it will not help Obama.
No one EVER attacked the black church because of what he said. It was about HIM and not the black church itself.

2. he's a selfish jerk. He has now reached the point that I DENOUNCE HIM
He is picking the wrong time to open his mouth, and he is deliberately seeking publicity
for himself.

He is thrilled to get all of this attention no matter how much he harms Obama.

This is the WRONG time for him to be doing this.

But hey, he's got a book to sell, and now he is enamored with his own image in a mirror.

As someone from North Carolina, I can tell you his timing is all wrong for Obama.

WRONG WRONG WRONG!

5. I agree, his timing is awful. And I think it is selfish and self-serving.
Now he's talking about black worship being different from white. Uh-oh - he's back on white and black learning differences.

NEVER FUCKING MIND THE OP. He's a nut. And he's full of shit. Still, quite learned, and fascinating. But Rev. Wright is looking out for Rev. Wright.

8. Right! Wright! Right! He is explaining where he's coming from, and
it's about time. Do it now, not later, or it will never end. He is right, and he's getting the kudos for being so. I'm very glad he's talking, and do understand why Obama loves the man; I do, too.
He's controversial, but that doesn't mean he's wrong. Now the world, those that care, will know how he feels and why he's said the things he has. It's all good imo.

3. He was speaking to the NAACP last night, why the fuck should he not have spoken the way. . .
. . .many in the NAACP would expect him to speak.

4. Wow. I thought his speech last night was fan-freakin-tabulous.
Your perception of his speech last night amazes me, and this is coming from a middle-aged white woman. I think the man explained himself eloquently, with humor, and even dullards who watched might have 'gotten' where he's coming from. My perceptions were formed before the m$m had enough time for their spin.

6. Eloquent or not, he needs to get his name out of the news.
This is as if Thomas Eagleton had spent the fall of 72 running around singing "Coo coo for Cocoa Puffs"

9. But until he explains himself, he will never 'get his name out of
the news'. I watched his speech on CNN last night; people were blown away by it, loved it! What's wrong with that?
I know, the spin is in, but taken in context, this man rocks.

14. Funny!
I wonder how many DUers know who Eagleton was.
But the difference is that Eagleton was a running mate, and Wright is merely a pastor -- even though the media would have you believe otherwise.

11. He does need to go away. And after a thoughtful start, he's gone back to wild-eyed racist theories.
He is not the right messenger for the dialogue we need to have right now.

13. wild-eyed racist theories ?
Such as? Im interested to hear what he's said this morning that, in your opinion, falls under that description. Ive watched the entire speech and wouldn't say that about a single thing he said.

12. Axelrod: "Obviously, we wouldn't have encouraged him to go on a media tour."
Amen! Axelrod began, "Reverend Wright speaks for Reverend Wright." The media has given Rev. Wright a huge platform. CNN ran his entire NAACP speech three times last night--apparently ending at midnight.

I disagree with Rev. Wright that this is "not an attack on Jeremiah Wright, but an attack on the black church." Sadly, Rev. Wright is hell bent on defending his legacy, potentially at the expense of Barack Obama.

Some of what he says is quite true, but it's mixed in with a lot of crazy talk.

18. I thought the same..
I was thinking the SAME thing at the beginning, but the more he spoke the more he seemed to fan the flames of racisim. This was NEVER about him or us being black it was about what he said, thats it.

The more he pushes this the more it will hurt Obama I think! Lets face it, racism and flame-bait is news these days and the more people get upset the stronger his black vote and weaker the white older vote. I don't know what is more important to him at this point. I think the polls in NC/IN will show a change...

19. I didn't find Wright that bad last night, although some of his theories are controversial. This
morning at the national press club, however, I am troubled by what he has to say, particularly saying that the attack on him was an attack on the black church! And I still don't know what Bill "ridin' dirty" and "Hillary ain't never been called a n***er" has to do with church.

21. He is LYING when he says this is about the black church. It's about HIM and his crazy
statements. That is just a big fat lie. Of course the media are stupid enough to run with that.
