)))Obama Attempts to Deceive the Superdelegates(((After Obama’s devastating defeat in Pennsylvania,
the Obama campaign released a memo addressed to the superdelegates but published in the Wall Street Journal which argues that Obama would be the strongest candidate in the Fall against McCain. The memo is so deeply flawed that Jerome Armstrong ridicules it as “satire,” and “exhibit A” for “intellectual dishonesty”:I don’t know that I’ve ever seen anything a campaign poll memo that so obviously cherry-picks polls over the last 4 months to make their case. It’s almost satire. Some rookie mailed it in on behalf of the Obama campaign’s “memo to the superdelegates”. I couldn’t imagine a known political blogger creating this list, and not being laughed and mocked out of the blogosphere.
Not only are the polls cited by Obama Inc. stale, but much has transpired since many of these polls were taken. Most importantly, Rev. Wright has entered the nation’s consciousness and Obama–contrary to his claims–failed to repudiate Wright.
Obama was able to blunt criticism in the media by giving his “race” speech, but the public at large has turned off to Obama and the rational for his candidacy has vanished.
A simple overview of the Pennsylvania results demostrates this fact. Hillary won 60 out of 67 counties in Pennsylvania and took every group except African Americans and those earning over $150,000 a year. In the critical state of Pennsylvania, Rasmussen Reports in a poll released today that Hillary leads McCain by 5 points but McCain beats Obama by 1 point. That’s after Obama spent $11.2 million on ads and six weeks in the state. If the Obama campaign wants superdelegates to look at numbers, then these numbers from Pennsylvania must be considered:
According to exit polls, Hillary won voters most concerned about the economy by 16 points (58-42) and union households by 18 points (59-41). She won those with incomes between 100K and 150K by 20 points (60-40); white women by 32 points (66-34) and Catholics by 38 points (69-31). She won those who decided on the last day (59-41), the last three days (58-42) and the last week (54-46).
This mis-leading memo from Obama puts to rest the notion that Obama has the nomination wrapped up. Perhaps the most egregious lie in the memo was the omission of Florida and Ohio. Chris Cillizza writes:
Two states that are not mentioned in the Obama memo are Florida, the key battleground in the 2000 presidential race, and Ohio, the Florida of the 2004 contest.
Do you want to guess why Obama left out the two most critical battle ground states?
the average of all polling in Florida puts McCain at 45 percent and Clinton at 42 percent, while Obama trails McCain, 49 percent to 38 percent. The same is true in Ohio, where Clinton leads McCain, 49.5 percent to 43 percent, while McCain led Obama, 45.5 percent to 43 percent.By any fair metric, the race for the nomination is a tie. The superdelegates have the fiduciary duty to select the strongest candidate to face McCain. The superdelegates require the best and most accurate information to make their choice.
The Obama campaign’s untruthful memo is an insulting piece of propaganda masquerading as a polling memo. They should take Obama’s sophistry into consideration when making their selection. Paul Krugman best describes Obama’s inability to connect with much of the Democratic base in places the memo omits:(great article..Must read!)

From the beginning, I wondered what Mr. Obama’s soaring rhetoric, his talk of a new politics and declarations that “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for” (waiting for to do what, exactly?) would mean to families troubled by lagging wages, insecure jobs and fear of losing health coverage. The answer, from Ohio and Pennsylvania, seems pretty clear: not much.
