NC Debate cancelled due to "logistics", party unity concerns
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/03/north-carolina-primary-ne_n_94961.html

"APRIL 21: The North Carolina debate has been canceled, according the local Democratic party:

"We regret to inform you that the proposed Democratic Presidential Debate scheduled for April 27 has been canceled due to time constraints and logistical issues associated with such a large, national event.

"You have shown tremendous passion and interest in being a part of history as Democrats are poised this year to elect the first female or African-American President. However, there were also growing concerns about what another debate would do to party unity."

(cut)

"Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama have both signed off on a Democratic debate in North Carolina. Now comes the debate over when to have it.

"Obama had previously agreed to debate his rival on April 19 in North Carolina. On Thursday, the Clinton campaign said she has agreed to a debate April 27, sponsored by CBS. North Carolina holds its primary on May 6."

Maybe this occured b/c Obama now has his greatest lead in NC:

April 21: On the eve of the Pennsylvania primary, Obama has shown his biggest lead thus far in a PPP poll:

Barack Obama: 57%
Hillary Clinton: 32%

1. Thank God. The last debate could have done a lot of damage to our candidates.
With all of the focus on inane bullshit, that is.

2. I agree. The issues have been debated to hell and back and these debates degrade into tabloids
Of course Clinton wants the debates. She is willing to take the shit for the free airtime. That why she is going on KO tonight.

Without the warchest Clinton will propose debates in local TV stations if it gives her the airtime.

8. Looks like the party elders are starting to circle the wagons.. It's about damned time
of course they also may have been afraid to subject her to EXTREME BOOING at the debates..

or maybe they couldn't round up enough of her supporters for a decent cheering section :)

12. Clinton didn't want to debate on the 19th -before PA
I wonder if she was afraid of audience reaction. Also, maybe this explains why she didn't do the Tweety College Tour.

14. Until the LWV starts running the debates again, all Democratic
candidates should have a bad case of logisitical problems. The ABC Debacle, and its defense, made it perfectly clear that the media believes its job is to assassinate the Democratic frontrunner, using anything at their disposal to do so.

17. They realize that no matter who the candidate, the true enemy is the MSM

Who have a vested and monetary interest to accentuate division, and hurt both candidates viability, for ratings and controversy. Either have timer-only-moderated lincoln douglas debats on issues, or just let the candidates make the final push on their own for now, in my view
