Bloomington Indiana -> Students for Obama shuttle early voters to the poll
Edited on Sun Apr-20-08 09:57 AM by IndyOp
:woohoo: I've been working for weeks to register voters and this is one exciting outcome:

Monroe County Clerk Jim Fielder says he’s “never seen a more organized group” than the local Barack Obama campaign.

Students for Barack Obama are shuttling voters from the IU campus to absentee voting in the Curry Building in downtown Bloomington.

One such voter, IU sophomore Alex DeCoursey, decided to hop on the shuttle Thursday while waiting for a friend at the Indiana Memorial Union.

DeCoursey, 20, said this was her first time voting.

“It’s a big deal for me. I’m excited to be able to contribute as a citizen. It feels good,” she said on the ride over. She had already decided who she would be voting for, based primarily on how the candidate has addressed social issues.

<snip>

Monroe County received more than 6,000 new voter registrations this cycle. That is a lot for a primary, Fielder said. He applauded the efforts of his staff and community volunteers who alphabetized and entered all of the registrations.

1. Sounds very good down there in Monroe County. I hope the significant
increase in Democratic registration will help retain that district's Congressional seat for Baron Hill against the malevolent Mike Sodrel.

Congress by nature can be very contentious and difficult, but it is those things plus mediocre correspondent to the number of people like Mike Sodrel who sit in it.

Go, Indiana Democrats!

3. They're very organized here too
I have never seen a primary candidate have someone in my little town. I've been contacted by phone and email. Very busy, lots of people involved. It's really amazing.

8. You bet! We have many of them and they're open through May 3rd.
Out turnout should be huge. I'd rather not wait in line. ;)
