Nader Taps Green Activist As Running Mate
Nader Taps Green Activist As Running Mate

By SAM HANANEL, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader (news - web sites) selected longtime Green Party activist Peter Camejo (news - web sites) to be his running mate on Monday, a move sure to boost his chances of winning the Green Party's endorsement this week and its access to ballot lines in 22 states and the District of Columbia.

Camejo, an investment adviser from Folsom, Calif., had been one of two leading contenders for the Green Party's presidential nomination.

The announcement came in advance of the Green Party convention beginning Wednesday in Milwaukee. Nader, who ran as the Green Party candidate in 2000, is not seeking the party's nomination but he has pursued an endorsement from the third party.

"Camejo shares my concerns for economic and social justice as well as the urgent need to protect our environment," Nader said in a statement before introducing him at an afternoon news conference.

2. If Ralph gets the Green nomination, he's on 30+ ballots.
If that egotistical motherf*cker carries even 1% of the vote, it is going to be devastating.

Greens... PLEASE, for the love of god... DON'T DO IT!

like an asshole, just like Nader. I've heard Camejo's statements. It's the usual Naerite BS from' 00 -- both parties are the same, etc etc.

I'm tired of heaping false praise on those that say they are progressive and liberal, but instead helping republicans get elected to office.

7. Thank YOU. In the words of Granny D ~
"In the 2004 presidential election, we must not split our vote between Greens and Democrats. I know the Greens have party building to do, but, if Mr. Bush wins again, there will be no America for them to build their party in. So they must defer this time and earn our respect and admiration for doing so." ~ Granny D March 8, 2003

9. Well, I definitely woke up when I heard this.
I don't think I can vote for this ticket because of who might win if I do. I hate that! But these two will definitely put pressure on the other candidates to confront serious issues. One thing I'll say about Nader is that he picks good people to run with him, and would probably make good appointments if elected. Dern, I'd like to vote for this ticket!

10. Greens Support Kerry in Swing States, Reject Nader Candidacy
In response to the so-called "spoiler" problem, several members of the Green Party of the United States (GPUS) who hold elected office are encouraging voters to support John Kerry in swing states -- those states in which the presidential election is so hotly contested that the victor cannot be readily predicted. The group supports David Cobb of Texas (former GPUS General Counsel) for the GPUS presidential nomination and discourages the GPUS from endorsing Ralph Nader's candidacy. David Cobb, unlike Nader, does not believe
Greens should run in such a way as to help "re-elect" George W. Bush.

The group announces the launch of Greens for Impact (www.GreensForImpact.com) which will work to promote an electoral strategy that fosters the growth of the GPUS while facilitating the defeat of George W. Bush. We believe that this agenda is most-readily forwarded by a strategy designed to maximize the Green Party's impact. Greens for Impact works to:
__________________________________________________________________

Encourage voters to register Green,

Encourage voters in swing states to vote for John Kerry in the general election,

Encourage Greens to support David Cobb for the Green Party nomination for President,

Encourage voters in safe states -- those that are so overwhelmingly Republican or Democratic that we can be confident today of who will win there in November -- to vote for David Cobb in the General Election, and

Actively and forcefully push for the use of instant runoff voting (IRV) wherever suitable, alongside ballot access reform and full public financing of campaigns.

_________________________________________________________________

Greens for Impact believes that the Presidential Election of 2004 is not a debate about voting your fears or voting your conscience. It is not an academic or theoretical exercise. Real people's lives are at stake. Women, people of color, the GLBT community, our nation's poor, and many others, save for the privileged few, will face real consequences from the outcome of this election. As a result, we must view the effect of our votes collectively, not merely by what they mean to us as individuals. Vote with your mind. Vote with a plan.

11. "Camejo shares my concerns " says Ralph
Yes, and he also shares Nader's appetite for self aggrandizement.

A perfect ticket, really.

12. Maybe so, but
Camejo has repeatedly, doggedly put forth a progressive agenda at every opportunity. Why put him down for slowly but surely reaching a point (the California gubernatorial race debate) where that agenda was heard by many. Like I said, I probably won't vote for him and Nader, but I am very pleased that they are out there spreading the word. I couldn't do it myself. Could you?

13. i like Camejo, but
Look, if Teddy Roosevelt couldn't even win in a 3 way race as a thrid party candidate...what chance in hell do these guys have?

Kerry has an awesome environmental record, and he will appoint liberal judges to the SC.

I can't imagine what a BUsh SC would look like.

14. Gore had an outstanding environmental record too
Didn't stop Nader from screwing him. Camejo can do a lot of damage if he gets into the VP debates or otherwise gets wide exposure. He did very well in the recall election.

Ralph Nader's pick of Peter Camejo insures him the votes of... Peter Camejo.
