Deanocrats-turned-Naderites: you're pulling a Sharpton.
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 12:13 PM by LoZoccolo
I was a Dean supporter almost all the way up to the primary. We had to sit through Sharpton's disingenuous attacks on Dean over the Confederate flag and Dean's cabinet. Then we found out that Sharpton was being propped up by a Republican operative:

http://www.villagevoice.com/issues/0405/barrett.php

Now with this clear and meaningful example of the right using the left to destroy our agenda, it seems like it should be obvious that we should all stay away from Nader, who's being propped up by Republicans, seeing as we've had them put one over on us already.

1. Sharpton is backing Kerry without hesitation
No conditions. When he dropped out he backed Kerry like a team player.

2. Since DEAN supports Kerry, not Nader.......
No one who supports Nader can be called a supporter of Dean. No one. It's a betrayal of everything Dean stands for.

3. Anyone voting for Nader is with the terrorists
You're either with the Democratic Party, or you're with the terrorists. It's that simple.

4. No, Either you want George Bush defeated, or you don't.
trying to draw parellels to George Bush for terrorists or again em rhetoric is fallacious. That is not the situation.

The situation is this. Only one candidate in this election has a chance to defeat Bush, and that is John Kerry.

Any other candidate for president doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of defeating GWB.

The greatest danger facing our country is another 4 years of GWB.

John Kerry is not perfect, but he is the best chance of getting Bush out, and that has to be our top priority.

15. "Getting Bush out" loses its value when his replacement sucks.
I'd be as excited as anybody about getting bush out, *if* his replacement were significantly better. Kerry is not significantly better, or at the very least, it's hard to tell whether he'll be better, since you can't believe a word a he says. He is totally political. There is no telling what he might do if repugs push him.

18. Nader said Gore wasn't significantly better...
...and he wouldn't have started the Iraq war (though Nader lies about it and says he would - where does he get off saying that).

28. You know what..It won't matter about ideals if Bush goes in again because
We will be living in a place that you could only dream of having someone like Kerry or even puke puke Lieberman...because Bush is a war criminal and he don't give a ratts butt about your ideals or your freedom. We will be writing in little diaries like Anne Frank..You want that? We can get rid of Kerry if we want to..We are his base...We got to change the soiled sheets up there at 1600 PA before we start complaining about the design of the ones we plan on putting on the bed.

No way abround it. You vote for Union-Busting Ralph, you enable the GOP evildoers by withholding a vote from the only guy that can remove them form power. Enjoy.

9. That's all the more reason for Floridians to vote for Kerry.
I'm not addressing the Florida state legislature here - I doubt a good number of them would visit this thread. There's been over three years for them to get rid of the purge and it hasn't happened, nor is it likely to happen in the next few months with Jeb Bush sitting on the governorship.

That being the case, Floridians have a choice for what they can do in these unchanging circumstances to get Bush* out of office, and that's to vote for Kerry. Pointing fingers at who you think is really responsible won't stop the effects of four more years of a Bush* presidency.

10. But the people being purged can't vote period
For Kerry or anyone else  You are pointing fingers at Nader, who you think is responsible, while (seemingly) ignoring the fact that voters are being denied thier most basic right.

By constantly harping on Nader you provide cover for the real evil.Shine your light on both at least,if you can't ignore Nader

peace

Sure it's their fault. You and I agree on that. We can prove that all we want. But it won't get Bush* out of office.

11. Actually, you can do a little something about the purge.
If you live in Florida, you should actually call up and check that you're still on the voter rolls, and do it often enough to leave you enough time to fix things if you're purged and shouldn't be. Personally I'd be for getting rid of it, but the only way I see that happening between now and November is if it gets to be too much of a burden to reassure people verifying that they're still on the voter rolls, and I doubt that.

24. All of Sharpton's criticizms of Dean were valid
and so were Kucinich's. Dean's confederate flag comment was stupid and his failure to quickly apologize was foolish. Someone had to point out that Dean's background and record didn't match his rhetoric. The corporate media that promoted Dean for months wasn't going to do it, so I'm glad Sharpton and Kucinich did. At least they criticized Dean based on issues, rather than the more ugly attacks that came later on from Gephardt.

Anyway, isn't it sad that Sharpton had to rely on money from Republicans? Its too bad black leaders aren't taken more seriously and better funded by Democrats.

25. I call B.S. on this post.
I would think that if there were any Dean turned Nader supporters here, they would have (probably) shown up in this thread. I don't know any, personally, and I know A LOT of Deaniacs.

The confederate flag (non) story was 7 months old when it became "news" The caucus (non) story was 2 years old when it became "news" Dean, in the end, was up against the repugs, all his democratic rivals, and the entire media corporate conglomerate.

Anyway, I think Deanites for Nader is pretty much a meme.

29. I don't think my post had anything to do with Dean turn Nader supporters
But since you brought it up, Greens and Nader supporters weren't supporting Dean, not nearly as much as they supported Kucinich. Nader and most Greens realized that Dean was a moderate and never considered him seriously.

26. it's true that Dean wasn't portrayed well by the Media...

but in every interview I read last year (and mirror copied here) about Dean:

http://DEAN.SeattleActivist.org/

He never failed to correct the record by saying he was more a centrist than a liberal... the media ignored the corrections because... I'll leave that so all of you can decide:

34. No they weren't
That cabinet thing was bogus and he knew it. By the very same lame standard he is anti white and Kerry anti black. Dean had more women in his administration than in the population of Vermont and appointed more openly gay people than his population would suggest. In point of fact he actually appointed more blacks than the population there would suggest (he had one black employee who was his chief of staff). Sharpton knew all that and lied anyway.
