Black republicans question party's committment
no joke.

http://wilmingtonjournal.blackpressusa.com/news/Article/Article.asp?NewsID=3348&sID=3

WASHINGTON (NNPA) – As the Republican Party tries to gain a larger share of the Black vote in the 2004 presidential election, skepticism over whether that will happen comes from a surprising source – Black Republicans.

“I’m not sure they’re going to even try,” says Arthur Fletcher, Jr., former assistant secretary of labor in the Nixon administration. “Nixon won the White House without a Black vote two times, Reagan won the White House without a Black vote two times. Bush won the White House without a Black vote one time. Bush junior has won it without a Black vote. When they look at their dollars and realize that the Hispanics are chomping at the bits to get aboard, I’m not sure they’re going to make a bona fide effort to attract Blacks.”

Republican Party Chairman Ed Gillespie, who has been touring the country with Black boxing promoter Don King, says he’s working to prove that the Republicans are serious about the Black vote.

“We want to do better than the 9 percent that President Bush got in 2000. I’m confident we can do that,” Gillespie says. “The president has done a lot to reposition the party and reach out to African-American voters.”

3. this whole thing with Don King shows how ignorant the republicans are
when it comes to minority and specifically african american voters. they think black people are going to vote for them because of don king. they will ignore the real reasons they don't vote republican which are about issues that affect them because don king is supporting bush ? what a joke.

I am African American and have a few friends that are die hard Rethugs. They think it makes them appear "rich."

Ha, and what has Bush done for them lately or ever??

Oh yes, he gave Colon and Condi and Paige and Uncle Thomas jobs--for them to serve him. They are nothing but slaves that will have to cover for their Master Bush. They are being used big time and are too stupid to know it.

10. Hee hee
You just made me think about the Boondocks cartoon when the grandpa was gonna go vote for "the General" and Huey told him Clark wasn't running anymore and the grandpa opted for Al only to hear the same thing and then "the sister" to... well... ;)

I see your avatar all the time, I don't know why I just thought of that now - but thanks for the memories anyway! :)

5. Hispanics are chomping at the bits to get aboard?
Really? I thought that they tilted Dem, just not as heavily as African Americans.

Is that guy from Miami, where the Cuban exiles form the only known Latino repuke voting bloc?

11. I'm black....
and very liberal. I have a black female friend who is a repub because "I like to think independently". I recently asked her how she feels to be so wrong in supporting people who are trying to destroy our profession of education. She said, " I am having second thoughts..."
