The fact that bothers me most about Bittergate.
On the Sunday AM shows it was reported that the bitter comment was said behind closed doors. It was a closed fundraiser in SF and the reporter who taped it was a contributor and that's why she was there. There was no MSM in attendance. This is not the first time he or his surrogates have said one thing in private and another in public. As someone who will support him IF he wins the primary that bothers me and I can see the 527 commercials already.

1. Yeah, akin to treating Obama like Randi Rhodes:
1. private gathering
2. words out of context
3. condemnation of his character
4. goal of getting him on the defensive

2. He is a typical politican.
Nothing new here, he calls for hope and change, while he , behind closed doors, belittles Small American people. By the way , there are a lot of susposedly bitter Obama folks on DU today.

6. I think you're very wrong. Listen to both messages.
I'm a latecomer to the Obama camp, but he's growing on me.

14. like the tumor of Colombia? like THAT tumor of death-squad double dealings?
you just hope people will forget what was happening before Hillary tried to distract everyone with this nonissue of "bitter" and "elitist" (which just makes her look even more ridiculous and hypocritical)--but what about her little deals with Uribe, or her dealings with Uribe through Penn, while SAYING she opposes such deals?? What a fucking LIAR! That's what we can expect under President Hillary: bloody-handed deals with death-squad fascists. How nice. But apparently that doesn't bother you. You're okay with that. where's your soul?

11. I really think you are wrong...
Time after time people that interview him say her really believes this stuff.

I know I believe him.

13. he didn't "belittle" anybody--sheesh
your bias isn't too obvious or anything. can you use even more distorted, loaded words? What a steaming pile of SHIT.

meanwhile, CNN just went on for quite a while about Hillary's conflicts of interest with Uribe in Colombia--remember that? I was so happy they weren't willing to let that be forgotten. Dealings with fascist death-squad torturers and murderers rank higher on my list of concerns than parsing every letter of a candidate's candid remarks.

17. yeah, it's biased to be concerned about dirty double-dealing--sorry
but I guess that wouldn't concern you. Death squads and under-the-table deals that are supposedly not happening are less important that an offhand remark about religion and guns. whatever--each to his or her own priorities, I guess.

25. I voted for him in TX
and will happily vote for him again in the GE, but u are right. He is another politician, he has a great message, but he spins just like the rest of them. He is not a messiah. I just hope he stops stumbling towards the endzone.

3. I don't think the substance of his public message is different from what he said
in private. Perhaps the shorthand in which he expressed himself was a communication style he would not have used in an open public forum, but he clearly showed in Indiana that the message was not different.

8. It has the perception that
he was whispering about people in the Midwest, specifically Pennsylvanians, behind their backs. In effect, he was gossiping about them, insulting them about what he perceives to be their stupidity and ignorance. There's no way he can get around this. I think he's about to lose big in Penn.

18. Have you not heard his Indiana speech which echoed what he said in SanFran? Duh..
The messages are the same but yet you chose to blind yourself with the obsessive need to ignore the underlying truth that Obama speaks. I think it a problem of Hillary if she thinks she can assume that parsing letter by letter ones speech is all that is required to become the nominee when she still has the overwhelming issues of LYING about involvement with NAFTA, the Colobmia involvment, the Bosnia and ongoing LIES about her supposed experience...you tell me who has the bigger issue...Hillary is finished and am glad she is gone.

22. His message was essentially the same.
And the fact that he gave a revised, doctored up message doesn't change the fact that he was "caught" dissing middle American values. We will see in a little more than a week whether he wiggles out of yet another gaff from him, his spouse, minister, or surrogates.

24. I dont think you feel Middle Americans have brains...
Edited on Sun Apr-13-08 02:19 PM by quantass
i was watching some videos online asking PA working class workers what they thought (check the DU video section for one) and they agreed with Obama....when i hear what Obama is saying it sounds very accurate and truthful. Parsing words and using them to say somethng different...but the truth stands: Working-class PAs are bitter about being neglected and Washington is to blame..Sorry to say, but Hillary is yet again being the opportunist that she is that she is using anything to deflect and hide her lies from the American people...have you being paying attention? Seriously, you can't possibly think Hillary is some kind of saint...try not to use the "it's her turn because she is a woman" excuse that i see from a number of her supporters.

But yes, we will see indeed what happens.

27. I was talking about OBAMA, not Hillary Clinton.
OBAMA is responsible for his words, NOT Hillary Clinton. You cannot deflect every gaff he makes back to the Clintons, however desperately you want to.

26. That's a flat out lie, and you know it....

"he was "caught" dissing middle American values"

There's no dissing or insulting or deaming values.... he was speaking on why wedge issue voters vote on wedge issues.

Stop acting like people are too stupid to understand what he was talking about.

9. Your fear of 527 commercials is duly noted. Fear not. Decisions made out of fear is what got us into
Iraq.

Hillary also feared what the 527's would say if she voted against war. And look what fear did for her. It cost her the nomination. And it cost America over 4000 dead and 25000 wounded.

So please, take your fear and stuff it up, be brave, and put one foot in front of the other.

Do not succumb to fear.

12. "said one thing in private and another in public" - here's what he had to say about it on 11/23/2004
"said one thing in private and another in public" - not correct, he's been quite consistent.

Here's the video:

16. how about what that LIAR Clinton says in private versus what she says in public?
oh, gee, no I don't approve of trade deals with Colombia!! (shifty-eyed public statement)

Mark, darling, go down to Colombia and see how quickly we can wrap up things with Uribe, okay? I can't wait to add to my bottom line after he murders those annoying union leaders and we can get that deal gong we talked about. Make sure he tortures some to send a message to the others, okay? oh, Bill, sweetie, could you please get off the phone with your latest piece of ass and order me a new livingroom suite? I have a little windfall coming and feel like going on a little spree ... (in private)

Those would be hilarious. Too bad she is a loser and we will never see them.
