McCain distancing himself from the GOP and people are buying it
I was talking to some roofing people today and they said they were supporting McCain and I asked why. They said he wasn't like Bush as he was more moderate and he was a POW, tough so he can fight terrorism!

I asked them had they heard about his other past (the dubious) like the Keating Five etc? They said that they hadn't.

Ugh! is this what people are thinking nationally? Any feedback?

1. The campaign against McCain hasn't even started.
It's all going to change once we run against him rather than each other.

4. Says who? McCain's best pal is the media. Hopefully nobody expects them to turn up the heat on him.
“The press loves McCain. We're his base.”
—Chris Matthews, MSNBC

“John McCain is clearly the Washington media's favorite Republican.” —Brit Hume, Fox News

“The media, of course, loves John McCain because it seems like he's back to the old John McCain.” —David Shuster, MSNBC

“I think every last one of them would move to Massachusetts and marry John McCain if they could.”
—Joe Scarborough, MSNBC

7. You're entitled to be bitter if you want. There are plenty of quotes about Obama from the press.
That would be a false argument, a "biased sample" I think.

Sample S, which is biased, is taken from population P.
Conclusion C is drawn about Population P based on S.

9. Could you find me some quotes that are similar about Obama?
The press has given McCain a free pass since his run in 2000?

On the other hand, Obama has not gotten a free pass.

hear Barack Obama's speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often." Chris Matthews

I also remember many people that night on cable news talking about how they liked the fact that Barack Obama "talked to me like I was an adult" and how rare that is in politics.

I agree the press has given McCain a free pass, but it's not going to last unless we let it.

I believe we Democrats are strong enough now to make this happen.

12. You may have a point, but I thought the same thing in 2000 and 2004.
I thought the media has going to get tough on GW Bush like they were on Kerry and Gore. It never happened.

Fool me once, fine. Fool me twice, forget about it. They aren't going to fool me a third time. I know how the media operates.

after the election is decided.

2. Well, yes - until the first debate with his democratic opponent,
when he will have to turn left or right and split his supporters.

3. He won't successfully pull that off without the help of the corporate
presstitutes. And all it takes to buy off the press corpse is some BBQ. McCain is a brown-noser who learned the trick from Bush.

5. McCain is a Shape Shifter. He is changing shape for the coming election.
He will be whatever he needs to be for anyone he needs to get what he wants. Describing McCain position is like describing the hole left after removing your hand from the water.

8. Ask them how they're going to like paying $12,000 a year for their own
health insurance. They won't have to worry about terrorists because they'll be too busy dying from an untreated illness.

14. Yes I think he will be viewed as more moderate than Bush and
I am hardly surprised they had not heard of the Keating Five. I just took a quick look at the Keating Five and noticed four of the five were Dems, including John Glen, who I believe is a man of high integrity.

If a republican is going to win, I can't think of too many others I rather see get it than McCain. I think a lot of Dems will vote for him over HC. I maybe one of them. (I support Obama now since Biden is out).
