We need your help: It's time to focus on finishing Campaign Underground.
Hey, everyone. For the last three weeks, I haven't been able to focus on Campaign Underground. I apologize for letting this fall by the wayside. But it's getting to be crunch time, and we really need to finish collecting and checking all of the info for each state. Here's a link to the Campaign Underground beta:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/cu

Many of the states are done or almost done, but there are still some states that are partially done, and a few that haven't even been started.

We need volunteers to help us finish. I think on some of the of the states, we are going to need many volunteers.

I think the easiest way to do this would be to organize information using the state forums. We can have many people working on each state, collecting information in this thread, and in the state forums. Then a few designated people from each state can actually input the data into the database.

But the first step is to figure out the status of each state. I don't have time to go through 50 states and figure out where they stand. I'm hoping that a few people will be willing to look through and report back with the status:

-No data collected,
-Some data collected (indicate what needs to be done),
-All Data collected (or almost all data collected), or
-All Data collected and double-checked for errors

If you are interested in helping out, please post in this thread. Then go to the state forum and look for a thread in there to help out. (If there is no thread there, then start one.)

Thanks for all your help! Let's get this finished!

1. Wisconsin -- almost all data collected and checked
The press section is done and fact-checked (if anything's wrong there, it's because of an error on the outlet's own Web site).

The stats are done and verified.

The Senate campaign is missing a challenger; the House page is missing a couple of latecomers. I can easily handle this on my own. I'll take care of this tonight.

Thanks.

15. Will we still have access to the database once this is out of beta?
A few of these races are volatile, and I'd expect to see some additions or subtractions as time wears on.

16. Yes, you'll still have access.
In fact, I think we need to re-think the manner which we access the database, to somehow give more people the ability to suggest changes. But we need to think about how to do it.

2. Question about results
When I did MA, we were told to give the results from the last (2002) election. A portion of mine were not up for election and the reuslts say 0%. But below these, it says:

*** The 2002 margin of victory was less than 10% ***

3. As you know, there were House elections in every district.
So even if there is no incumbent, there was an election in 2002. Please input the 2002 election results, even if none of the current candidates ran in 2002.

My state gained an electoral vote (NC) but only the 2000 numbers show up. Otherwise, I think NC is good to go. I'm updating the house races in case there are any new ones.

Oregon has lost 60% of 2000 Naderites. We are with you.....

Oregon says: "Gore" Hybrid cars better than "Bush" Hydrogen fuel cell cars, piles of crap! AUTOnomy is GM's Worst Lemon!

Thank Vice President Gore. He was right on that as well as computer. We learned about 'their' neo-connish designs and objected.

Oregon likes L.A. River rebuild and Green/Blue/Red/Gold LRT work as 'Replacement for Auto', beginning circuitry. Try monorail somewhere. San Francisco hi-speed 1st Phase Californias must block. Better routes to consider first.

WASHINGTONian ignorant, are being fleeced by General Motors, and other GM people.
Seattle's screwed LRT again, monorail and both Streetcar proposals miserable examples engineering flops. Everett Sounder is Failing to produce and cause not being discussed. Thank God between Tacoma and South Tukwila, somebody finally found some sense. Thank you Tacoma and northside communities. How do you like your new sidewalks?

Seattle never builds sidewalks until they hire very expensive engineers to adequately screw them up! Between Boeing South and Boeing North, NO Seattle rail projects predict as a success, for god's sake.

Oregon says: "Gore" Hybrid cars better than "Bush" Hydrogen fuel cell cars, piles of crap! AUTOnomy is GM's Worst Lemon!

Thanks, Vice President Gore. You were right on the computer investment too. We learned about 'their' neo-connish designs and objected.

The race is over! Kerry is a war hero of military rank deserving advancement to at least Major; this year. Don't go too close to the Generals offices, Senator. They need to better experience their fall from favor without constant distraction. Boring work reforming followers of Rumsfeldian Doctrine. Send a young representative for this particular dirty work.

THANK YOU, VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY MUUUUUUUUCHHH !!!

Need to remove non-nominated gubernatorial candidates. elad said to just remove 'em and he'll deal with the empty radio buttons later. Also, found pretty good list of the AM stations in the state. There's a bunch of them, so entry will take a wee bit of time. Since many have no more than an address and phone, I'll have to go through the online YP and get the partics for each one.

STATE LEGISLATURE: initial input complete
U.S. SENATE: initial input complete
SENATE RACES: N/A

TV STATIONS: in progress (about 1/4 done)

Of course, all those sections with initial input complete may have errors, and I've already corrected a couple of things and added a few as well.

I have also posted this status to the Michigan State forum and have asked for folks there who are interested to help me finish up the major media (TV and radio stations). I'll of course begin working on them in the meantime.

Thanks!

32. Skinner - Important Question on E-Mail Links
I've asked this before and apologize if a response was posted that I missed.

Some of the media outlets and a few of the campaign sites use an e-form for feedback/ comments in lieu of an actual e-mail address.

When the URL for the e-form is entered, it shows up as an e-mail address.

Example here - The SouthEast Missourian uses an e-form for contact:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/cu/cu.php?az=detail&state=MO&id=1196

This is how it appears on the Underground information page:
Email (comments/feedback/letters to the editor): http://www.semissourian.com/opinion/letters/submit

Clicking on the feedback URL pops up Outlook Express and places that URL into the 'Send To:' field.

I haven't tried using it, so don't know if it actually sends that way, or results in an error message. All of the e-mail addresses I've ever seen use an @ whatever.com format.

My question is - does something need to be changed somehow to be able to reflect that the feedback is in the form of an e-form rather than an e-mail address?

Hope I made that clear enough to understand.

Thanks,
soup

48. Thank you, NewHampster.
I appreciate your taking the time, and that one is updated.

Unfortunately the problem is bigger than Missouri.

A state chosen at random - Colorado. There's 2 tv stations in the media list that use an e-form. The DUer entering the data for that state chose to enter (use contact site) in the e-mail field.

When I click on the 'email' link like I'm going to send an e-mail to the station, Outlook Express opens up and (use contact site) appears as the e-mail address in the Send To: field.

I helped gather the Florida information, so know there's some there that use an e-form, too. There's a possibility that I missed an address or 2 (or more - old eyes) on a submit page, but sometimes an e-form is the only means of internet contact.

Can you see what I'm saying? Am I confusing you as much as myself? Making this more difficult than it is? Have a feeling I'm just phrasing this really badly -and the longer I ramble on trying to clarify it, the worse it gets.

Now that we're all walking around in little circles mumbling to ourselves 'what the hell is that woman going on about?'...

Maybe what it boils down to is asking - How should we enter the contact information if it's an e-form rather than an e-mail address?

54. On every media outlet there is a place for all of this information.
There are separate database fields for email addresses and website addresses. There is a special database field just for the website page with contact info. If it's a web form, you should put it in there.

If you mess up some data on the incumbent representative, there seems to be no way to edit the record. I had the voter turnout reversed for District 24 (Tom Feeney). How can I edit it?

51. Hi everyone.
I'm sorry I haven't responded to these questions yet. I'm spending most of my time stuffing envelopes this week, so I'm a little behind. I will try to respond later today. :)

53. I'm Interested
I'm interested in doing the writeup for Kansas. I sent skinner a PM but I am not sure it went through since I am a pretty new user and I kow there are restrictions on those types of things.

56. South Dakota, Wyoming
Edited on Sat May-29-04 09:41 AM by suegeo
South Dakota is done, except for the part about media reach (ie, the regional area that each newspaper covers, radio station coverage area, etc.)

I looked at Wyoming, and saw it didn't have any information. Since Dick "Big Time" Cheney claims to have been belched out of Wyoming, I will try to gather some information for the state, in the hopes that my efforts help to unseat the bastard.

I will post what I gather in the state forum. And if Skinner sees fit, give me the log-in information for the state, and I will enter it into the Database myself.

ON EDIT: The House of Reps information for South Dakota is not done, because the previous Republican Congressman, Bill Janklow was speeding down the highway in his tuna barge, blew through a stop sign and mowed down a Vietnam vet. As a killer, Janklow lost his seat in the house, and a special election to fill the seat will be held June 1.

63. Does the info I posted above appear in any state?
From what I've seen, no state lists the actual reps by name, nor their challengers. Is that how it's suppose to be?

Mississippi was pretty light on media information.

Therefore, I gathered the information and posted it at that state's forum here on DU.

I know eyesroll has been on it longer, but other than being a Mod, I would love to help out with the Wisconsin Campaign Underground section.

Let me know if I can help, and how. :)

72. Skinner - what to do now that the primary is over?
The New Mexico primary was yesterday (6/1), so we now know who our candidates will be for the general election. I don't see any way to update the database to reflect that. Could you let me know?

73. You should be able to delete records.
If you click on the section you wish to edit, there should be a link that says "Delete records".

74. OK, got it - and now New Mexico is completed!
I have deleted the losers in the primary and corrected a couple of mistakes in other places. As far as I can see, New Mexico is complete and accurate.
