Pew Poll: Obama 49%, Clinton 39%
Poll: Obama leads Clinton nationally

By The Associated Press

March 27, 2008

THE RACE: The presidential race for Democrats nationally

THE NUMBERS

Barack Obama, 49 percent

Hillary Rodham Clinton, 39 percent

------

OF INTEREST:

The two rivals' standings in the Pew Research Center poll have changed little from late February, the latest indication that so far Obama has weathered the controversy over provocative sermons by his longtime pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. While Obama has a mostly favorable image among white Democrats, those with unfavorable views about him are likelier to say equal rights for minorities have gone too far and to oppose interracial dating. Almost one in four white Democrats who view Obama unfavorably also think he is Muslim, when in fact he is Christian. Obama and Clinton both continue to hold slender leads nationally in matchups against the all-but-certain Republican candidate, John McCain.

------

The Pew poll was conducted March 19-22. It involved telephone interviews with 1,503 adults, including 618 Democratic and Democratic-leaning registered voters. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus 3 percentage points for all adults and 4.5 percentage points for Democratic voters.

7. shhhhh...your playing the race card
Remember, racism doesn't exist and if Obama supporters claim racism then they're playing the race card and are completely paranoid.

20. Sadly, they probably are.
I volunteered for Obama in rural NV and TX. I ran across a lot of bigotted ignoramuses. People who actually believed the Muslim email. They were Democrats who supported Hillary. This is not to say that the majority of her supporters are like this by any means but they are a significant enough factor to be worrisome. They are the 28% who say they will vote for McCain if she's not the nominee.

26. If someone doesn't like interracial dating, they should stick to their own race when dating...
Otherwise, it's really none of their business.

I don't find blond men attractive. I like men with dark hair. It's not bigotry; it's just how I'm wired. However, I don't try to outlow dating blond men, or judge other women (and men) for dating blond men. That's just how they are wired.

Racism is different, IMO. It's judging someone based on their race alone, and not just their individual physical and social characteristics, and it goes beyond dating. It applies to what opportunities certain races should have, where they should be allowed to go, and jobs they should be allowed to have.

Just my opinion...your mileage may vary.

you see people on here screeching about "pandering" when he mentions having Easter dinner with his family when asked about his weekend.

6. Whoa.
That's a pre-Snipergate poll too.

I said a couple of days ago that Snipergate wouldn't really affect HRC's polling that much, but if her polling is this bad already, the dip she'll probably see from the last couple of days' worth of relentless Bosnia coverage is the last fucking thing she needs.

Really, I'm cheered by this poll. Obama gave one of the best speeches in history and people actually seem to be responding to it. Hallucinationary also seems to be paying a price for her monumental lie.

13. PEW is now offering for download their statistical data sets! ...
Unfortunately, data sets aren't available for any 2008 studies, so not much can be told about the validity of this current poll.

22. Damn, looks like Barack's not going to get the anti-interracial dating vote, afterall.
Also, 23% of white Dems who hold a negative view of Obama think he's a Muslim (I guess these are people that are now referred to as "low-info voters"). Hopefully at least some will change their mind about him as they get to know more about him.

27. Nice. Here's a new poll for North Carolina from Insider Advantage
March 27, 2008 — Hillary Clinton desperately needs to claim more white votes if she is to win a desperately needed primary by taking the Democratic presidential contest in North Carolina May 6.

But with five weeks to go, undecided whites likely to vote in that primary are, if anything, slowly moving to Obama’s column, or may be ready to.

Here are the results of our North Carolina poll from Wednesday night:

“If you are voting in the Democratic primary and the election were held today, who would you vote for?”

Barack Obama (49%)
Hillary Clinton (34%)
Undecided (17%)

The poll was conducted by InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion on March 26. It sampled 406 likely voters in the May 6 North Carolina Democratic presidential primary. The margin of error is plus or minus 5%. The data have been weighted for age, race, gender and party affiliation.

“Firewall state” has been the king of clichés during this campaign season, but that term has never applied more than North Carolina does for Clinton. If she loses badly here, regardless of any modest gains in the national delegate count, her candidacy may be done unless her primary victories in Florida and Michigan somehow end up being seated at the national nominating convention.
