the Alpha & Omega: the military bookends of the Clintons
Edited on Thu Mar-27-08 02:41 PM by stellanoir
I'll confess. I never voted for Bill Clinton. I live in a deeply blue state wherein he was gonna win anyhow.

I didn't like the Slick Willy persona or how he seemed like a total womanizer.

I voted for Hagelin on the Transcendental Meditation ticket. I loved the idea of a Natural Law Party and a meditating Physicist being in the WH. Yes it was truly a throw away vote. Someone else in my small town voted for him in both elections. I'll forever wonder who that was.

I remember Clinton's first inauguration like it was yesterday. There was so much hope. Maya Angelo speaking about "Morning in America" and so much renewal and more youthful exuberance than I'd seen thus far in my lifetime.

Then as soon as he took office, there was the dumb haircut scandal. Then there was the don't ask don't tell agenda.

I thought OMG, one of his first moves should not be pissing off the military.

Of course, the 90's proceeded to be riddled with prosperity and yet were rife with bitter partisanship, gridlock, and witch hunts over scandals, real and imagined which totally pale compared to what we've had to endure thus far this decade.

Yet Hillary's tall tale about Bosnia, how divisively disingenuous it is, how it insults the military just makes me wish they would just take their falsehoods, "gutter politics," and self serving agendas and simply go away.

Bill Clinton's arguably losing fight to allow gays to serve openly in the military was a noble effort... That a person would see it any other way makes me question their commitment to progressive ideals...

3. Nah it wasn't about what is fair.
It was about how the traditional military corps would react to that being an immediate priority.

Very different deal. I don't think anyone's sexual orientation should matter or is anyone else's business as long as activity is consensual really.

I just didn't think that was a wise first maneuver is all.

5. I just thought it was sort of an obtuse priority with so many other things to consider.

6. No More Obtuse Than Harry Truman Integrating The Military In 1947
A right deferred is a right denied...
